I went to Moroso to get some practice Didn't do too hot but, oh well
After a few runs, I decided to go and watch for a bit and I saw a gorgeous new blue Z06 waiting to run(some car broke a few cars before him). Finally, they clean it up and ready to go. The guy had a swarm of people stalking the car as he inched up. The car looked and sounded stock to me, simply beautiful. I finally get to see a new Z run.
The light turns green "pop" car shuts off It didn't even look like he even moved an inch. I was only about 15 ft away when it happened. I felt absoluetly terrible for the guy. There were a bunch of morons laughing in the stands and such like morons do.
They push the car back into a spot and the crowd once again swarmed. I walked over and just tried to listen in the distance but, couldn't make out what had happened. About an hour or so later, I saw it being towed away by a flatbed.
A guy I met who says he checks this site out and the other vette site out said he had found out it was the rear. Wierd thing is I swear I didn't even see the tire move one inch. He didn't seem to rev it high or anything. I dunno if he is a member here but, if he is, sorry about what happened and I hope they take care of it for you. I'm sure they will.
I'd just love to know what it really was and why it happened
Any of you guys hear of anything like this?
Miguel

Without the car moving at all I can't imagine what could have happened.
That's what I found so strange too. I could see if he revved high and then hooked real good and something snapped but, I didn't see the tires move an inch. Pretty crazy indeed. Since it didn't move, and I definitely heard a "pop" sound, could it have been engine related??
If it was the rear, would the car shut off like it did?
Yeah, I think the idiots that laughed were a classless bunch. Most probably didn't have cars of their own and can probably talk a good race....
Laughing? That's just rude. People go to the track because they're enthusiasts of all types of cars. Sounds like some real trailer park/Jerry Springer material was in attendance when this poor soul had is baby break down. Too bad some of us weren't there. Enough black Z06Vette.com T-shirts mixed with some steely eyed stares would've done the trick nicely.

Did he do any type of a burnout before rolling up to the line? He might have broken something there that got stuck inbetween some gear teeth. Then when he tried to launch, the gears couldn't turn when he let out the clutch and the engine stalled... just guessing. I'm not the most mechanically inclined.

Dang Scott,
That's a pretty good guess there buddy.
Really sorry to hear this kind of stuff. I can't stand it when people in the stands laugh at someone's misfortune. You just never know when it could be yourself.
