I don't know enough about Solo II to really get involved in the debate. However, from my somewhat outsider's perspective, it seems it would be beneficial to the class to allow the C6 Z06 in. But, if I had a C5 Z06 racing in that class, I might be of a different opinion... (for example, I'm not real excited about seeing the C6 Z06 allowed into T1 as I couldn't compete at that level financially).
It's not allowed in SS, but it runs in ASP like a modded C5. Letting it run in SS wouldn't be very reasonable - at least not until there are some other stock cars that can run with it. Currently, the C5 Z06 is still dominating SS (though the Elise and Porsche GT3 are making up ground) and the C6 Z ought to be substantially quicker.
When there are some other reasonable options that could be competitive in SS (you'd probably need at least 3 or 4 other similarly priced cars), it doesn't belong in SS. That is why I'm not getting one right now - I want to keep running in SS... Oh - yeah - that and about $40k cash!
The Viper is restricted in T1. Also, for most autocrossers, racing as an ASP won't be a big deal. One could also race the street classes, which have very fast cars.
Brad... the SRT-10 Viper runs in T1 and it has over 500 hp. Is it restricted to allow the Z06's to compete better?
Yes, it has a restrictor plate on it. The SCCA tries to level the playing field as they do in the World Challenge series by playing with the cars weight, tires, upgrades (suspension, brakes, coolers, etc) and in some cases restrictor plates. But, no matter what they do, someone will complain that their car is overly restricted. Though a C5 Z06 won the T1 class at the Runoffs this year (with Heinricy at the wheel), the Viper appeared to be the faster car.
