I am very interested in the sound deadening add on for my 06 Z06. Could someone confirm to me the part that reduces road noise that installs somewhere near the rear wheels. I think it may be part number 10301956 at $14.70 that installs somewhere above the rear wheels. This would reduce road noise, not engine noise and the weight is only a couple pounds. Is this true??? Someone please confirm
Gerry
At the Fest during the plant seminar, Wil Cooksey (Plant Manager) said the sound deadening package consists of the thicker rear carpet found in the coupe and two "bags" od sound deadening material put into the cavities just ahead of the rear wheels. The weight was 2 pounds.
I put them into my 06Z. Glad I did! PM me if you want to know which dealership I got them from (paying much less for them than my local dealership -- including the freight cost.
They weighed less than a TOTAL of 1/2 pound for the two of them, cost about $68 including freight. I haven't taken any decibel readings but it is quieter. Yes, can hear the exhaust and the motor in a GREAT way whenever I want, but they reduce somewhat the tire whine from the huge rear tires. Each sound insulator (and that is not the exact name for them) gets put into a cavity located behind the rear inner fender (you need to jack up the car, remove the rear tires, then the inner fender liner, then squish/compact the bag and put it into place; the sound insulator bags do not need to be attached, but stay in place by expanding into its surroundings and held there by the inner fender liner when the fender liner is reinstalled). The best way to describe the location of the bag when in place is to say that the cavity in which it rests is located on a direct line between the rear wheel hub and center of the upper seat back.

Sorry, but can't find the parts numbers tonight. I will contact the dealer and post them for you Wednesday morning (Pacific Standard Time), along with the exact name of the part.
Took a friend for a "road test drive" today and tire whine was sooooo much less than before. He keep commenting on how wonderful the exhaust sound was. I noticed the lesser tire whine. I keep thinking how much better it was than before I installed the sound insulator bags and the Corsas.

The part number is 15864749. You will need one for each side.
When this great dealership looked it up today, they noticed that this part is now listed for the 07 Z, so we know this is one of the two parts Will Cooksey was referring to.

Money well spent!
I went to order 15864749 and Chev says this is not a good number. Could you please recheck the number for me?
Thanks, Gerry

Is it possible the correct part number is 15864779?
Thanks, Gerry

My computer couldn't read your response. Please confirm the part number. Could it be 15864779 instead of 15864749?
Thanks,
Gerry

Could they be installed through the taillight holes or is the cavity too far away ?

Not through the tailights.
Basically in front of the wheel well. Gonna have to try this.
