My Z has about 800 miles on it. Awesome so far except for one small thing. The dash and center console (more the center console) are squeaking when going over bumps, or more often when making turns (think the twisting of the frame in a turn is causing this). I'm a big fan of the new interior so it seems a huge shame that Dave Hill's guys would build such a great car but engineer some of the interior peices such that they have a propensity to squeak. Seems in recent years between stronger frames and better interior parts/designs, squeaks and rattles in cars have become increasingly rare. Thus, I can't believe I have them with less than 800 miles on a $70K car.
Any others experiencing this (ie is it a design issue) or am I unusual (ie bad assembly)? I'm guessing it's common but not many on the forum have discussed this yet. JDogg, if you're out there and watching, any comments/suggestions? Also, please report up the chain so this can get fixed if it isn't just me. I hate for the car to develop a reputation similar to the C4 for squeaky interior. Most of my squeaks seem to come from the center console right around the shift knob. The other area on the dash seems to be the plastic housings for the driver info buttons on the right and the heads up display on the left.
Best bet is to get it to a dealer to try to isolate the source of the noise.
Usually it is a trim piece that is moving when you hear an interior squeak.
Have someone ride with you in a place where you can reliably repeat the squeaks. Try it with the console door open, holding the shift boot, the e-brake handle/boot, the center stack cover, glove box door, defroster grates, A-pillar trim to the dash board, etc.
Is it only on hard turns? Is it a hard vibration, metal grounding out against something or more a plastic/plastic intereference?
I had a clutch replaced recently and now I have this heonous squeak the cropped up. Sounds like it's coming from beneath the center console.
Anytime there is any suspension travel it squeaks. So like on the drive home from work tonight it squeaked like 1000 times.
I can't help but thank it is related to the clutch swap because when something happens 90% of the time it's the last thing you f'ked with.
I called the installer and drove over to see them, showed them the squeak but they were more concerned with what the were already working on.
I told them when they had a low time in their work I wanted to address it but now its driving me crazy so I am considering pullling my center console. What's the process for pulling the console? I haven't pulled it before and I'd like to get a heads up on where the screws and stuff are.
