yea i read the porsche was a flying start and the z was a standing start. what kinda s is that???? so can we say the fastest standing start in all of productiondum is the lowly american old pushrod technology large dispalcement non-whining vette??? man i am such a convert now. every other day or so i read how badass this car is to the other so-called super-car elite it strains my brain as to why some would rather even have a 430, or gallardo for the same price. i know status, status, status. ive been there too. but people know stock-for-stock buttkicking and this z does a fabulous job of kicking stock ass. how could you feel good taking on a lowly 70k american car in your prancing horse only to see the taillights???

The PLOT thickens. Like really GOOD syrup on your pancakes.
ANOTHER 'Ring thread. I'm happier than a pig rolling in sh-t.

2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 in Daytona Sunset Orange flexing its 505-hp engine at the famed Nurburgring F1 track in Germany. What is GM up to this time? A flying start perhaps? The 7 42.99 was accomplished from a dead stop and managed to come within 10 seconds of the World's Fastest Production vehicle, the $450,000 Porsche GT. The Porsche GT managed its 7 minute 32 second lap with a flying start rather than the dead stop run by the C6 Z06. By sending the Lemans Blue C6 Z06 to the Ring, the media thought the car was the Blue Devil. GM will not make the same mistake twice.
So, when and where and who and WHAT TIME DID THEY GET
if they need a flying start to compare to the GT.
I say, "WHAT TIME", you
fabulous fantastic fearless fast flying "Fellows" of fortitude.
GM's got money to burn before bankruptcy.
GO FOR IT. It's only my pension.

Dare I sing another round of "GO JOHNNY GO".
That would be John H. for the uninitiated.

Why would GM spend all their time at the Ring with such a fast car and *not* time the laps off a flying start? It doesn't make sense to me, so I doubt the time was from a standing start.

Agreed. This is ridiculous, they wouldn't do a standing start. And the current record is 6:55 not 7:32 anyway (Radical SR8).

I believe the topic is about lap times for a production car.

Radical does a production SR8 but I think of more relevance is whether it's a "proper2 CAR, i.e. one you can use regularly on the road (not just track), take luggage etc.

But I too find it VERY difficult to believe that Magnussen's laps were done without a flying start.

More likely: IF there is more Ring testing going on, it'll be the "Copper Devil" and the stopped vs. flying start point is thrown in to put people off the scent when even faster times come in.

A difference of .5-1% can easily be the result of weather/track conditions. On a 450-470 second lap that is 2-5 seconds. This would include rubber from other cars, especially race cars with sticky tires.

I thought it was reported the Magnusson made two lap runs. So, how could that have been a standing start?

That was exactly what I was about to post.

Many sources have stated the fastest lap came on the 4th. Only the first lap was a standing start.

The record was on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, not the Nürburgring F1 track. I bet a moped could do the F1 track in 7:42.99

Also, the Mercedes SLR, Mosler, Donkervoort, 2 Radicals, and a Königgsegg have all posted faster times on street tires, being production cars, and street legal.

I think GM is using a production line car this time. The first car was a pre production car and that always raises the question of how close to production it actually is.

I merely repeated the material that was linked, so you could see what was being talked about.
It was NOT my words or quote.

Probably. But, a one-legged man on a bicycle might be "stretched" a bit. As I said, I merely repeated the link material. It's not my responsibility if they are "a bit off".
