Tire pressure sensors - Don't need them?

I am working on picking up a set of track-only wheels and just heard from my dealer that the lack of tire pressure sensors will only result in a low pressure warning on the DIC.

Apparently no other problems than that (which is just fine for the day to three that I'm got these things on).

Anyone have "confirmed" reports otherwise? I'd like to be sure before I drop a pile of dough - thanks in advance.

According to other reports, it may also create issues with "torque management" which was part of the programmed "safety net" with a tire low condition.

Yeah, saw the same reference as a forum post but don't know if its confirmed or not. Did you see it as anything but a post?

DIC code

When I installed my HRE wheels the first time the installer broke one of the sensor resulting of the warning code (sensor problem).

The car does not lose power and you can make the code disapear on DIC by pressing the reset till next time you restart the car.

One think does not work you can no longer select COMPETITIVE MODE.

It was definitely a post, not confirmed, and I seem to recall it came from what seemed to be one of the "reliable" posters with some track experience. But, one nevers knows.

Well that DOES suck. Can you just turn off AH all the way?

You might check with DJ Worm or Lou at LG Motorsports.

If no sensors are in place, and the computer senses this condition, I doubt turning off the AH will have any effect on any of the parameters that control torque management.

Sounds like a question for c4c5Specialist or DJWorm.

My Z reacted the following way with track wheels with sensors installed BUT without the sensors being initialized to the car - nothing for first 20 minutes, then tire pressure system warning (NOT low pressure, just a system warning) that could be turned off with reset. However, the car would not go into COMP mode nor AH OFF mode. This is not acceptable for track use. I then initialized the sensors (I have the handy, dandy (and not cheap) tool for doing this) and all was well again.

Now, I stress that is what I observed in my 06Z06, built on August 31, 2005. Whether something has been changed in later production (or earlier production) I have no idea, since others have posted on other forums that they can run fine without sensors.

Doesn't the C6 use the same "tool" as the C5? A magnet??

Agree with you, AH off or at least comp mode ON is important. Given that I'm not terribly interested in having tire pressure sensors for the track - I'm not too interested in paying the $'s. I could use any wheel with the correct offsets, but with sensors I'd need to spend some dough to get the right rim THEN buy the sensors.

Anybody out there know how to defeat this for track duty only?

Oh, NO, my friend. It will only reset with a radio frequency tool - the magnetic switch does not exist in the sensors being put on the Z06. Some earlier C6's had sensors with both radio and magnet switches.

You can do the old trick of using epoxy and a band to attach the sensor part of the unit to the wheel (cut off the valve part). Folks have done this with CCW classic track wheels for years . . .

So I guess mine built Sept 1, will behave the same unless there is a magic first of the month change.

Mr Law - where does one get one of those things and how much does it cost?
