15 months ago a friend of mine put a $1,000 deposit on a z06. he was first in line at this northern new jersey dealership. in nov. of '05 he was asked to come in to the dealership and place his order. At that time he received a dealer printout with the msrp stated for the car and it's options. in jan. '06 the dealer called him with a tracking number for the car. during the entire 14-15 months my friend was always told that the price he was going to pay was msrp. last weds. night he went to pick up his z06 and was then told that the prices was not msrp , but $10,000 over msrp. Is this standard operating procedure for all dealerships that took deposits 14 months ago ?
the dealership is Hawthorne Chevrolet, just off of route 208 ! the original so called agreement that was signed 15 months ago did not state msrp, because according to the dealer, 15 months ago they had not only no pricing figures, but also no option lists. the engine size was not even known. therefore the agrrement said, subject to pricing and options. the salesman promised my friend that it would be at msrp. when i brought this omission of msrp to my friend's attention, he said it would be resolved when he goes to order the car in nov '05. i went with him. the saleman said to both of us that the price was definitely msrp.to reassure us he give my friend a copy that he printed showing the ordered options, color, etc. at msrp. any ambiguity about lack of pricing on the agreement was resolved by the order form, obviously, the salesman lied to our faces. if any one is interested i will continue the saga ,discussing the day we went to pickup my friend's z06.

MSRP is still gonna be MSRP when the numbers did finally come out. I would have made them agree to MSRP in writing (with a refundable deposit) reguardless if they knew what the actual pricing would be. You really have to watch these dealers ... they will bend you over every chance they can get.

My friend's z06 was apparently put on ebay, without the dealership in Hawthorne even contacting him. So much for Hawthorne Chevrolet's claims of 70+ years of integrity, loyalty, and honesty.

You are what we call in the law biz a "witness" to this oral agreement as to price. Thus, your friend may have a leg up on the usual poor shnook who has these conversations with the dealer in private. Given that Joisey is a blue as blue can be state, he might find a sympathetic ear (with you as a witness) if he pursues this in court. Good luck to him.
Just do not go to e-bay and look at what is going on, (being asked) for C6, Z06's.
