After new rotors from Chevy, I'm still just not happy with these brakes. What's an upgrade from here? Stoptech?
If anyone has driven a BMW M6... that is the feel I want when braking. Smooth, tight, controllable.
Yep - I think these StopTech brakes are what you want:
stoptech.com Callaway Speedster
I think they are very similar to the Carbon Ceramic Brake System (CCBS) that will be on the ZR-1.
They cost about $15,000 and I guess you can them directly from StopTech, or you could order them through Callway.
Perhaps when the ZR-1 is out you'll be able to get their brakes through the GM parts supply system, but I think it will cost about the same as this StopTech setup.

I have the Stoptech BBK, it is half the price of the ceramics, and an amazing difference on the car. I run Ferrodo track pads on the track and had to competely readjust my braking points...the car stops faster, and with more control. The other benefits are much easier pad changing, more pad selection, and unsprung weight savings.

I had a stock E320 Mercedes that stopped better than my C6Z! I beat the hell out of that car w/ no fade, or warping. Had a good bite w/ nice controllable stopping repeatably. Amazing w/ the look of these brakes, and all those pistons the brakes are not better than any street car. I traded up to the 08 Z so I didn't have to invest in better brakes and coolers in my C5Z. Well so much for that idea and another 45000 dollars!!! Anyway I vote for Stoptechs.
Yeah, like I have mentioned before... I have driven many different cars from old camaros (drum rotors in rear lol) to maximas to bmw's to vipers, and never had these problems. But I'll look into Stoptech, thanks!
That's something I haven't seen someone experiment with. Hope someone tries this to see what results they get.
Thats what someone else told me as well... B/c they are both 6 piton calipers/front... not much difference there? The stock rotors/pads without a doubt lacked attention during the r&d of this car imo.
Try changing the fluid. Go to a good Motul fluid, or ATE Superblue. ATE has been awsome for my caprice. I've run Gingerman raceway and passed many a corvette, viper and other cars. (Stock 1 piston calipers) no fade. If that fluid can take that heat, I now run it in everything.
One of the big reasons I went to the Stoptechs BBK is to get rid of the stock calipers...if you limit yourself to keeping those you are stuck dealing with only a handful of pad manufacturers and they all charge more for those little padlets that don't last as long and are a pain in the ass to change.
At first, I tried factory... wasn't very happy, even on the street. Brakes just had very little grab & didn't want to stop the car, even in bumper to bumper traffic. Pads felt soft & low friction, and that I'm not used to from my other cars.
Mod 1: Castrol SRF fluid & Mintex Xtreme Motorsport pads. Just bleeding the brakes & changing to this fluid made the pedal firmer than it was stock. These pads also had a slightly harder feel & greater friction level that improved overall braking. They need to bed in properly & transfer material to the rotors for best braking, as their chemical makeup is different than stock.
Mod 2: Added Racing Brake 2pc front rotors with aluminum hats & slotted discs. More bite & brakes felt much better overall. Car should have _at least_ came from the factory like this. If I had also put the rears on, it may have been OK for the most part, until pushed at near race pace anyway...
Even with this setup, some problems I found included brake pads that still wore out a little faster than I liked. Especially with 20 pads that were a slight pain to change. The Mintex last longer than stock, and were a great dual purpose pad, but I got tired of changing 20 pads before every track weekend. I also noted some pad/piston "knock back" that left me with the pads not touching the rotors in some circumstances, and that millisecond delay in brake application I hate...
Mod 3: Full AP Racing brake kit front & rear. Haven't tracked it yet, but it feels nice after I bed in the pads & expect it to work well. Rotors are all 2pc and slightly larger than stock. Pads are all easy change, with 6 piston fronts & 4 rear. I'll post updates after the track event.
Next mod is to cover the front steering knuckles to protect from radiant brake heat & possibly add spindle ducts if needed.
