What is the chatter I am hearing?

Just brought my Z home last night.. 08 2LZ fully loaded Atomic Orange... it looks soooo good...

Anyway, not sure if it was just me trying to baby it for a bit, but I heard a bit of a chatter when first taking off... is that clutch chatter? Or is it something else? It did it about twice, then I never heard it again...

Re: What is the chatter I am hearing?

now that I read into it a bit, I think it could have just been cause the car was still cold... and it was brand new.. I'll listen for it and see if I continue to hear it, but it stopped when it got warmer... could be me being overly picky as well.. haha

Wow, I've been trying to figure this one out for 2 weeks and no one had a clue. I guess I described the sound wrong. I brought it in for service and they are replacing the shifter. There is a service bulletin on it.

Re: What is the chatter I am hearing?

What's the TSB say it's for ? I have an 08 for three wks now and I have a glitch going from 1st to 2nd where is difficult going into 2nd. I figured it would work in and that everything is new. Is there a replacement shifter? The shifter itself is much nicer than the previous ones.

Don't know about the 08's. Had the rear end chatter in my 06Z and changing out the fluid plus adding the additive stopped it.

I guess i'll pay attention to it and see if it still does it... Guess I might just take it in for a new shifter

Re: What is the chatter I am hearing?

I think what you are experiencing is clutch chater. I had that for the first few hundred miles on and off but then the clutch seemed to break in and I never get it anymore. It freaked me out at first. I thought that I forgot how to drive a stick. Once in a while now I do hear the shifter rattle which is very different and seems to happen only when I get on it very hard.

Re: What is the chatter I am hearing?

I have narrowed it down.. its only when I am moving rather slow and the car bogs down a bit... like when its in first gear and creeping along...

Its starting to go away as I get more miles on the car

I wonder if that is the 1st to 4th skip shift...
I had trouble with 1st to 2nd shifting on my old Z06--took me a while to figure it out, and then I noticed the tell-tale dash light.
Get a skip-shift eliminator.

i bought my 08 Z only few days ago.. i didn't get chance to drive it i only put around 110 miles on it. i heard this type of noise since the first day i drove it. It really freaked me out and i thought the same thing, i thought i forgot how to drive a stick. shall i tell the dealer about the problem or just wait until i put more miles on the car and see what happens!?

when did the chattering noise disappeared? after how many miles ?

I have the same thing, and got somebody to listen from outside. it appears that it might be the limited slip differential. I do not get it so much in a straight line. Mine seems to be fading out as I get the miles on it though.
