Re: Z06 Clutch Fluid Change

Use turkey baster to remove fluid from reservoir, and replace with DOT3 brake fluid.
Check fluid color every month if not clear repeat above.

Do a search for the Ranger method. It's also on the corvette forum. It's the easiest and best method.

Not correct. The fluid for C6Z's is Dot4 from the factory. You can pick up the GM stuff or there are a number of other DOT4's out there. Follow the Ranger method to keep it clean and fresh. Don

You are correct, I was thinking my C5 which they recommend DOT 3....DOT 4 would be my choice for brakes too, even though the C6 owners manual calls for only DOT 3...go figure! C6Z test cars at Milford had DOT4 in the brakes..a test engineers told me it was ATE

Re: Z06 Clutch Fluid Change

A C5 that sees some track time with an owner who flushes/bleeds brakes and freshens clutch fluid regularly should run DOT4 in brakes & clutch as well. (I have since 2004)
A C5 that just sees street use is fine on DOT3.

I used Dot 4 ATE Super Type II Amber color fluid for clutch and brakes. Don

Basically you use a "turkey baster" or "syringe" to suck out the fluid from the clutch reservoir.

Then use a lint free cloth or towel to remove the remainder of the fluid from the bottom. I use those blue mechanics paper towels.

Clean the cap and rubber thingy and refill with clean fluid (per mfr recommendations). I use Prestone Synthetic Dot 3 for my C5 Z06.

Put the cap/rubber thing back on and pump the clutch pedal 20 times and recheck the fluid.

If dirty again, repeat procedure until clean (you may have to do it a couple of times if real dirty).

Be aware that clutch/brake fluid is highly corrosive to paint and protect the car with rags around the clutch reservoir and be careful not to spill any on the car.

It should look like this when it is clean:

Re: Z06 Clutch Fluid Change

Thanks YumaZ06! I picked up a bottle of Prestone but am undecided if to use that or the GM fluid.

Re: Z06 Clutch Fluid Change

The Prestone brake fluid is fine. I've been using their DOT 4 synthetic in my clutch and brake systems in my C5Z for years. Don't waste your time and money looking for the GM stuff.

Re: Z06 Clutch Fluid Change

I changed the fluid today. Very easy to do. But after pumping it i saw that it got a little dark. So I am sure I will be doing this again next weekend or even maybe during the week. It all depends on how dark it gets. To the OP, my apologies, I didn't mean to hijack the thread..

Re: Z06 Clutch Fluid Change

You need to suction it out. Replace it with fresh fluid, pump your clutch about 25 times fully to the floor and out. Check your fluid, suction it out, and do it again, until it clears up.

It took me almost 2 full containers of fluid before it got clear enough.
