2010 Nissan GT-R To Lose Troublesome Launch Control
2010 Nissan GT-R To Lose Troublesome Launch Control

Nissan execs have apparently told the reporters over at Edmunds Straightline that the 2009 Nissan GT-R will be the first and last GT-R with the "launch control" system as the company is tired of dealing with the warranty nightmares that have convinced people they can't do GT-R donuts. Said one high-ranking exec:
It's gone," he said when asked if launch control would return in 2010. "We just don't want to deal with the warranty nightmare anymore
Hey, but there's a silver lining.
Said the same source, "It'll make the 2009 GT-R really special. It'll be the only R35 with launch control." So remember that GT-R owners when your engine falls out of your brand new exotic car and Nissan won't replace anything because your teenage son used launch control once in his high school's parking lot in a misguided attempt to impress a girl in the marching band. too funny!
Nissan had to know this was going to happen. When has any manufacturer included an option on their car that voids the warranty if used?
Could it be they planned it all along, and just wanted a ringer for all the magazine tests? Hmmmmmmm

Porsche shows the use of launch control in their new sales DVD for the 997 TT and C4s. They demonstrate their system on a mountain road live and in HD color. The disc was included inside my newest issue of Auto Motor und Sport magazine.
If Formula One cars didn't use this "feature" at the start of each race I believe this would be regarded as a useless feature for street cars. Like " learn to drive kids ".........
Re: 2010 Nissan GT-R To Lose Troublesome Launch Control
So instead of beefing up the weak components, they take away the option. Unbelievable. I wonder how much of a difference it will make. I have to believe that as heavy as the car is, with AWD, launching it wouldn't be a problem.
Still a fan of the GT-R and still plan to own one someday.
Like someone mentioned, they must have known it would cause problems. Too bad they don't have the nads to build up the transmission. I still like the GT-R, though.
Re: 2010 Nissan GT-R To Lose Troublesome Launch Control
How much would a beefed up trans cost? the stock one is already at $20,000 to replace.
$20,000

They should at least offer a manual transmission (or is that too low-tech? ). Btw, without launch control...

According to Inside Line's testing, the GT-R's acceleration is dramatically slower without launch control — effectively relegating the one-time top dog of the supercar realm to B-list status. Our test of a Japanese-spec model, which is easily the quickest GT-R we've ever tested thanks to high-octane Japanese fuel, proved how much launch control aids Godzilla's holeshot: Zero to 60 mph required 4.5 seconds (4.0 seconds with 1 foot of rollout like on a drag strip). The quarter-mile slowed to 12.2 seconds. That's a full second slower to 60 (no rollout) and a half-second slower in the quarter mile than the last GT-R press car we tested using launch control.
