I just picked up an 06 Sierra 3500 for my new worker and I like it so far. Feels gutless compared to my old work truck, I had a 97 Ram 2500 with the cummins pretty heavily modded, and had just under 400 thousand on it when I got T-boned. Got mine from a friend who bought it and realized it was overkill, it's 2 years old with 5000 miles on it. Pulls pretty strong, already ordered exhaust/chip/intake for it so I'm hoping it gets a bit better. I think a 1500 would be better suited for you though, you can pull a LOT of stuff with even the 1/2 ton gas jobs. The ride quality on the 2500/3500 trucks has improved, but I would be leary of the new diesels untill they get all that regeneration crap figured out. The new trucks are getting terrible gas mileage because of it.
