Custom Homelink Mod I did this weekend....

If anyone is interested, for a while now I've been thinking about putting together a custom homelink Mod for my Z06. As you know Homelink was never offered as an option in the C5, and I hated having a big clunky garage door transmitter clipped to my visor.

So I decided to mod it, here's what I did...

Found a complete set of parts on eBay (actually just bought a visor with the parts inside and gutted it), total price $20.

After dissecting the parts from the donor visor, I removed my driver side visor from my Z, and carefully cut the stiching to open it up.

Once it was open I just sketched out and carefully cut out the necessary section.

cut the wires to splice in for power

spliced and soldered the wires for power, and cover with heat shrink tubing. (used a little hot glue to secure the wires after splicing)

positioned and installed the module (in the end, secured with low profile double sided tape)

located position of buttons and carefully cut out section

Painted plastic button bezel black(with plastikote), and installed buttons onto visor/module. Then sew up seam (local upholstery guy did it for me in 5 minutes while I waited).

Finally, installed back into car. Programmed, and works like a charm and looks like it was always there! No more ugly remote or batteries to change:cool:

Pretty easy and inexpensive Mod, hope this helps any of you looking for a solution

Now that is a good idea. I hate having the remote flying all over th place with a little spirited driving.

Sometimes the best mods are the ones that don't look like mods at all.

Ok...dumb question. How does it get power? Batteries or another source?

Very true, Kris. The sheriff did a fabulous job with that mod.

There is power to the visor already for the vanity mirror.

Looks good Sheriff!

Somebody should market those as a complete bolt on kit. I would get one for each of my cars. Any entrepreneurs out there??
