Digital Camcorder????
I'd like to buy a digital Camcorder for special events, car shows. etc. Something not too technical, very compact, for less than $500. I have a Sony 8mm that is about 12 years old. I don't want to deal in tapes anymore.
Can I get something decent for that money??
Suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
Joe

Thanks Tom. If I can't get a decent one for those $$$, I may just hold off until I can afford a better one. Kids are all grown, maybe I'll wait until I start getting grandkids

Joe,
I just picked up Canon ZR65 MC 20X 400X digital Zoom Very small, light and does not have a lot of buttons. $449.00 less 10% sale price.
I picked up a 128 meg card for it as well.. It take stills also.
Take a look at one if you can..

Joe, Digital camcorders, unlike digital still cameras still require the use of tapes. They use one of two formats: MiniDV or Sony's Digital8.
Some digital camcorders, such as the Canon mentioned above, use a memory card for still pictures but the video is still stored on a cassette tape.
To make it even more confusing there are digital still cameras that can record a small video onto their memory card but are not a "camcorder" per se.
Hope that helps.

I can vouch for Etronics. I made two purchases from them. J&R music world is good to. Both Digital 8 and DV camcorders do use tape however. Good luck
