It was an '05, so 500hp, not a new one with 600hp.
First of all, to any an dall Viper lovers: good on 'ya, I hope you love it, it turns heads, its american, its cool looking, and the '08s are faster than my car. Nobody will ever confuse your supercar with a normal 'vette, which is a great perk.
The owner was very and we swapped rides, so he's probably posting something similar on a Viper forum somewhere. And that's cool too, to each his own.
Disclaimed as such, d@mn.
The clutch would cause uneven muscle build-up, the shifter needs counseling to help cope with its confusion issues.
The passenger seat is completely inbred, the drivers one is comfy. The A/C sucks and I got sweaty in a 20 minute drive with it cranked.
Its loud, but the engine/exhaust sounds kind of odd. Not rumbly, not a sweet flat-six Porsche song, not an LS7. Just like it didn't turn out the way it was supposed to.
It rides like a 70's era 1-ton pickup. For noise and ride, the '08 Z06 is closer to my Caddy than it is to the Viper.
The engine doesn't pull down low like the LS7, isn't even nearly as smooth or free to rev, and the car isn't as shockingly fast as the Z06. It seemed peakier if that seems reasonable.
It had pilot sports, and i LOVED the attitude of the Viper on some very tight curves at 60 or so (registers like .7 or .8 g's on the Z06 at that speed). No body roll, at least as composed as the Z06, awesome. Steering was fine, no complaints.
But man that thing is no Corvette, no Corvette at all.

Man what a letdown, I can't get it out of my head. I wanted to love it, hell I wanted to love it enough to buy one.
But I cannot. I'd rather take a sawzall to the top of a Z06 and then weld some braces onto the frame and soup it up to 600hp than live with that mess. I mean honest to god personally sawzall a Z06. It rattled, it sounded broken, it had 7000 miles, none of the noises it was making seemed healthy, the tranny clunked sort of. My Z06 has 4000 and I've had it for a month or so and its still getting better, by 7000 miles it'll be nice and broken in.
And it was really ... quite far from the thrill of dropping the hammer on an LS7. It just didn't shock you the way the Z06 still sort of shocks me in the proper gear at full throttle.
I guess you have to want that crudeness to really surf the Viper wave. Or the scarcity.
While I often find magazine reviews to basically suck, the Dodge Viper really is the rawest crudest thing on the road. No doubt about it.
Great, great tires though. I'm riding on Michelins next summer.
The ACR should be killer. Be sure to post pics when it arrives.
haha! yeah, it'll be fun i'm sure to have the fastest production track car ever including an Enzo or a CGT. (it just might be)
I'll give you 2 thumbs up and drive with my knees when you roll by... and I'll take a moment and be real, real glad to be all wrapped up in a Z06 just after I do.
Enjoy man! But don't pass that bong to my side of the couch.
I recently picked up my ACR, and most of your complaints have been addressed in the 08's. I drove it back 2400 miles, and it was comfortable, cool (I actually had to turn the AC down), and got 25 MPG. It commanded a lot of respect on the road, and handled very well. Compared to my 06 Viper coupe, the 08 is waaaaay better. The tranny is much improved, and the power is great. I have had several high performance cars which includes 2 Z06's, one of them with a procharger, a highly modded 996 turbo, an FGT, and 2 Vipers. The only other car I liked more was my FGT, but this ACR is a VERY close second.

Congrats on the ACR and thanks for sharing your thoughts on it. Sounds like a good weekend car.
