EZ Pass Question

I have an EZ Pass for the Vette. I will be towing the car to the Fest with my pickup.
I know I can add the pickup to the account (under 7000) and use the pass in for the pickup, but what about the trailer?

You guys that pull trailers occasionally: What do you do??

Should I just leave the pass at home and use the attended booths? There's only a couple tollbooths for me.

Why would you have to pay for the trailer?

You going to have to leave the Ezpass at home unless you want to risk a ticket. They charge you according to the number of axles. So your going to need to double what you normally pay because of the extra two axles.

You can also just naively go through with your trailer on your regulare ezpass (which only charges for tw axle vehicles) and there's probably a 99% chance no one will catch you. Someone would have to be paying attention to your account and look at the video to realize the discrepancy for what you paid for, and what you drove through the booth with.

On another note, has anyone else noticed that EZpass NY is now charging a $1 an month service fee..

That's what I thought too although the website says you can occasionally pull a trailer through?? I'm not taking a chance. I'll just leave it at home. I live in NJ and signed up in NY to beat the $1 a month service fee. Looks like they caught up with NJ.

The passes are rated for number of axles and weight in some areas. The Pa Turnpike weighs your vehicle as you get on at the NJ/PA border.

Joe,

I worked for the company that designed the EZ Pass system for the NJTP, GSP and the AC Expressway and if memory serves me correctly we placed a ‘foot treadle’ in the lane to count the number of axles. Then the computer system would charge the customer accordingly.

If they have a problem reading the trailer they will look at the photo and charge you accordingly. My transmitters battery has been dead for 2 weeks and the feedback screen tells me the toll is unpaid but I have not received a ticket.

Joe, my wife pulls a horse trailer with our Dually to Cowtown every weekend, no problem it counts the # of axles and charges accordigly. Sometimes when she goes through other states they charge by weight, don't worry about it. Enjoy the Fest!

How do you like retirement so far?
