Good Morning Everybody
I have a chance to trade my 02 Z06 for a used 07 Z06 and have been toying with the idea. I love my car but don't drive it much. About once a week when it's nice and sunny, I take it out to warm up the fluids. I really am just a polisher. My insurance guy always said I didn't need an engine just to shine it up.
Anyway my car has just 2,500 miles to date. I bought it new and have extended a 0 deductable GM Gold warranty until 2010. Perfect in every way. What should I ask in trade for the used 07 Z. Loaded around 2K miles. I would need a super deal to do a trade.
I know I should do what I want to do but I value your opinions so go ahead and give them to me. Thanks.
You know what free advice is worth, but I had an 03 and now an 07. Both were great, but there is something about the 07 that just wasn't there with the 03. It's hard to finger, but the refinement and power are better with the 07. The overall refinement seems better. The 07 is more "mature" than the 03 "teenager" but that still doesn't explain the difference. You need to get in an 07 and drive to see what I mean-and not just around the block. I'm talking a couple of hours of seat time. I sold my 03 in August of 06 with about 17,000 miles and the Andy's partition and hardwired Valentine 1 and Lloyds mats and a few cosmetic things for $35,000. I got a screaming deal on the 07. Your car is basically new and probably in cherry condition. Even though it's a year later than when I sold mine and yours is a year older, I think you should get atleast $35,000 for yours on trade. The 07 probably stickered around $75,000 and with only 2,000 miles is also practically new. The 07 should still be worth $65,000 anyway(I paid less than that for my new one, but then I said a got a screaming deal). About $30,000 to boot is in the ballpark. I think I'm going to keep the 07 a time. Hope that helps.
Unstated is your financial situation so answers will be out of context.
I was so enamoured of the 07 Z06 I took it home 2 hours after I drove it, but if I had to struggle to afford it I would have never even taken the test drive.
I can afford to do it but would miss this one. Just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. I'll never get another C5 Z06 like mine. Haven't even dirven a newer Z06. I don't belive my Z06 is dying a slow death from boredom. We all have to pay for what we want and should be able to use it as we see fit. Not as young as I used to be so a few miles a week is fine with me. I have always bought the best of everything and never use it to the fullest. Just my quirk, I guess.
Anyway keep the comments coming. Your helping me decide.
The dealer is offering to sell you the '07 for $77k?
If you want a good deal, I'd say you should look for a spread of $30-35k. We can manipulate the numbers on either side of the deal all day long, but if you had to stroke a check for more than $35k it wouldn't be a good deal in my opinion.
The MSRP was just ov 77. His offer was my car and 35K for his used 07 with just under 2,000 miles. I know the market is soft now but thought my car should be worth more. I turned down 38.5 in April. Wish I had that guy back.
I bought a new 2001 Z06 and then bought a new 2007 Z06 last August, but the difference between you and I is that I drive mine. I have 9,500 miles on my 2007 and I can't drive it for 4 months of the year. I had 47,000 miles on my 2001 when I sold it.
If I were you, I would just keep the old one. It seems like you want a looker, primarily, and the old car looks pretty damn good to me. If you were a traveler like I am, you would appreciate the additional luggage capacity of the C6 (all due to the hatchback vs notchback).
I will tell you this, however, I wouldn't trade my new one for the old one, becuase in a hundred little ways, it is a better car.
Is 77K a good deal? for a used Z with 2000 miles? I was thinking closer to 65K. As for the refinement, I am so getting tired of that word used in this context
