The fact that Toyota runs non-union shops in its US plants says it all, IMHO.

The only chance I see for GM to survive is to go bankrupt, and re-emerge with a totally non-union workforce. Then they will have no restrictions on the use of advanced robotics, can have sane health-care costs, and so forth.

They simply cannot survive with the status quo.

BTW, this quote from the article sums up GM's stupidity more than anything else I've read:

"Wagoner is pegging his turnaround largely to a rebound in large pickups and SUVs. "

But truck and SUV sales are down 21% from last year this time, and are projected to KEEP going down at about the same rate. If they are depending on SUVs to keep them afloat, it's all over for the General.

It really pisses me off to watch them self-destruct :-(. It also makes me wonder what'll happen to the Vette when they do.
