Mechanic Dregree?

Right know I'm earning my AA degree. I want to end working for Richard Childress Racing (in NASCAR). After I finish earning my AA degree, I plan to earn a mechanic degree. Either at Universinal Technical Institute, or NASCAR Technical Institute. I most likely will not need a AA degree, but I'm hoping this will help, because I will have more education most likely than the other mechanics there. So that might help me get into NASCAR easier. I believe most of them have just mechanic degree's. I plan on going up to North Carolina this summer to talk to RCR and other race shops.

My questions are-

Do mechanics make good money?
Anybody know how much around (yearly)?
Is there any other degree I should get to add on to what I will have (I know engineering might help, but I do not care for that kind of work. I like working outside, or building things)?
Are there any other jobs out there that pay good money that aren't engineering, medical, or owning your own business?

I love to work hard on things that require hand work (I get board easy if I'm not working).

Thanks for the help.

I was a tech for almost 25 years, made a decent living. I got out of it in 1988, but to be a tech today is a whole other ball game. The best advice I could give you is get as much education that time and resources allow. Them go after your dream job. I would imagine trying to get in to RCR would be extremely difficult. Good luck to you

You may like it, but you will NEVER have any time to yourself, for yourself. You will be on the road almost everyday of the year.Your girlfriend will leave you, and the hours are long. The good news is they pay pretty well. And if you're sober and dependable the teams will fight over you. So yes, your dream job is attainable but you will never see a race because you will be too busy.

I know the guys that travel to the races or always busy. I was wanting to be one of the engine builders that stay at the shop. I figured maybe they don't have to work quite as much. As long as I have most of Saturday, and all of Sunday off, I'm fine with it. I wouldn't mine working 7:00a.m.-6:00p.m. (just as long as I'm off by 6-6:30p.m.). It has always been my dream to be in NASCAR. I love to work. Anybody know dollar wise how much they make? Enough money to bye a ZO6 ? I plan on going up to the race shops to talk with them this summer.

Please keep your opinions coming. Thank you.
