Sound System install complete

Included in the install is:

Kenwood KDC-X817 head unit
Kenwood KDC-CX78 10 CD Changer
Alpine MRDF752 Class T Power Amp
2 6.5" Boston Acoustic front in doors
2 2" Boston Acoustic tweeters in doors
2 Boston Acoustic RX57 Rear speakers (pillar)
2 10" JL Audio subs for wells in trunk

All parts used are Pheonix Gold. Roadkill (sound insulation) will not be added due to additional weight gain. Therfore sound system can be heard very plainly from outside the car with all types of accompanying vibration noise--inside however, the sound is very good with no hint of rattle or reverb.

All work in the trunk is custom fiberglass built, the boxes for the two 10" JL Audio subs. The face of the head unit flips over whenever keys are removed from ignition. I also hard wired my Passport 8500 to the ignition, so it comes on automatically when the key is turned. Satellite radio (Sirius not XM)is included @ $9.00 per month.

The system has turned out to be very balanced and somewhat bright, although front pillar tweeters would really be nice. Can it rock your socks off?---Do you need all that bass?---- You betcha!

Total price installed $4059.38

A BIG THANKS goes out to the guys at Earmark Car Audio in Plano for making it happen.

Nick Glasse (Sales)

AND the guys that REALLY DID THE WORK! The techs:

Mr. Gus Reisner
Mr. James Wisenhunt

Thanks for your hard work!

I just got finished with this before Christmas. Check out my website of the install.

I will be tearing the interior of my Z apart just like yours Real Soon Now. NOT!!
The pics can be disturbing for some. I compare it to walking into a operation theatre with your child on the table, chest cracked open and a surgeon in elbows deep.

It can be shocking to look at but if left to the professionals --all will be OK.

Cool system and install! I am interested in the enclosures you had made for your subs. It appears they are bigger than the stock storage wells. Did they open up the stock boxes to make more room? Generally every sub install I have seen has been in the center compartment with an AMP rack along the rear wall. Now would you throw some golf clubs in the trunk still?

Thanks for sharing the pics.

Excellent analogy, I couldn't agree more.

The side wells were left stock and NOT opened up and new fiberglass tubs were made to fit right in. The magnet on the JL Audio 10" subs are quite large, 12" would not fit at all.

The amp and 10 CD changer fits pretty good in the middle well.

As far as carrying loads: The amp and changer are protected by the custom cover--it has a fine mesh that allows the amp to breathe (the amp has dual fans and it gets hot). The subs are protected by a heavy mesh grilll (if they get scratched, I'll repaint--if they dent, I'll replace).

I am more careful when placing loads in the rear, I wanted to still have a useful trunk area.

Do I still have a useful trunk? Yes.

Is the usefulness comprimised by my audio system? Yes.

It's a trade off I suppose.
