Yesterday, while I was between meetings in Alpharetta, GA, I went out for some errands. I drove up to Roswell Fun Machines to get some oil and a filter for my ATV. Yes, shopping for ATV stuff in the Z06. Anyway . . .
In the parking lot is an EB Z06. When I went inside I asked whose it was. Some kid at the counter said, "It's my friend's. He's 17." Um. Okay. So, this guy wants me to check out his friend's "system."
So, I finish up my purchases and head outside. I go and stand at the driver's door of the EB. The kid rolls down the window a crack and all I smell is POT! He's been smoking it up while his buddy was inside! WTF??
I am one of those people that is TOTALLY INTOLERANT about drugs and such. And to see this 17 year old punk smoking it up and driving a Z06 really irritated me. I wanted to drag him out of his car and beat the snot out of him. And then give his car to someone who would take care of it and respect it.
sigh. And before any of you think I have a problem with younger people: I'm 26. I bought myself an exotic vehicle when I was 18. I understand that sometimes people come into money or whatever. Age doesn't necessarily correlate with maturity or responsibility.
But this kid was such a POS.
And if his parents DID buy it for him: They must want him dead.
Cuz he's totally the kind of kid that knows nothing of the power that lies just under his right toe, except as it relates to showing off for his buddies.
That sucks... it'd be nice to have a Z06 at my age. I sure as hell wouldn't smoke dope in it... or at all. Sometimes I wonder what it would like to be loaded at such a young age... then I think about my cousins that grew up driving Landcruisers and Bimmer verts. They grew up and never appreciated the fact that their dad wouldn't let them get a job. I guess when I can afford a Z it will mean so much more to me than it ever did to them
I personally don't care how a person chooses to pollute their body or treat their cars, until they make the decision to drive around stoned amongst the rest of us. What they need is a moped. That way there's a better chance that they'll only kill themselves.

I agree.

I agree as well. I mainly just disagree with his decision to put the rest of us at risk.
But it's DOUBLY maddening because there are so many people out there who would LOVE to have the opportunity to own a Z06 (and not put themselves, us, and the car at risk by being a pot-head).
Unfortunately, it doesn't suprise me at all. I've seen/known dozens of similar examples. The fact that some kids have a great head start financially doesn't always correlate with future work ethic or success. It all depends on how they were raised, and much less on the families financial resources. It will be interesting to see this kid in 10 years and see if he figured things out.
I don't think you should limit your minds in saying its the young kids. Whats the big deal, Just because they own a Z06 they shouldnt do dope? Get over yourselves your cars are no that exotic, and if they were so what? I know of 2 Zo6 owners in there mid 30's who are so called "pot heads" and thats alot beacuse i only know 3 people who own vettes.
oh and i'd rather have a pothead driving then a drunk driver.

What spawned this comment??????????? You either feel it's safe to drive around in a 400 HP car with only 1/8 of your brain cylinders firing or more likely you got your wee-wee spanked by a Z06 recently.
I agree that the mass produced Z is not in the exotic car category and having 50K disposable income to spend on a car does not make you anything special, at least where I live. when cruising Newport Beach in your Z your just another car on the road.
You know it's really too bad for the society that SOME of the youth these days are being brought up with a sense of arrogant, self-entitlement that is just so foreign to me.
And it is just that, their up bringing, not how much money is in Mommy & Daddy's wallet. I have a lot of respect for the youth who go out and earn the gifts but there are too many who don't.
They feel that things are owed to them. And I'd be willing to bet in 10 years that the kid is still in a fog. And will blame everyone and everything around him for his problems.
I'm in a situation with my girl friend who has a 17 year old that is just that way. For instance, if there is something lying on the table it's automatic that it's there for him to use... or take... or break. I get so angry, that sometimes I don't know how to act. I just have to remember that he has'nt had a father figure since he was 5 and try to do the right thing. It's just scary to think that he will soon be responsible for his own actions and have to pay some consequences for himself real soon. His mom has taken on too much of his minor life's trials and errors.
Just a rant.........sorry, but really....some of the youth today are scary!!!
I would have taken his license number, got on the cell phone and turned him in for driving under the influence.
Seventeen, smoking and selling the good stuff, maybe that's how he bought a Z06???
