Update on my Future! Good News!
I try to refrain from my medical background, but most of you know I have been off work since May 12, 2000 for treatment and compete recovery (cure!) from CML leukemia.
Anyway, my doctor authorized my return to work starting December 1, but the authorization had restrictions such as "no contact with, nor exposure to fuel, oil, exhaust fumes." These are permanent restrictions. My previous 33.5 years with Detroit Diesel Corp were as a Sr. Engineering Technician in the Engineering Laboratory....So, today I called the benefits office to make sure they received the letter from my Doctor, and what's next for me? The reply was "since you cannot perform your normal work functions, you are on continued long term disability until at least next May."
What does that mean? No driving to work in snow & ice, no alarm clocks, no scraping ice & snow off car windshield after leaving the shop, plus my medical bills are still covered by insurance!
Life is Good, and I am so grateful for each and every day!
Great news on the health front, I hope your employment news long term is to your liking...........
Congratulations on what i am sure has been a real thorn in your side.....and your families......

Congratulations!! I'm glad you had good news regarding your health. I know how cancer takes its toll. My dad died when I was 17 (4 years ago)and my mom has been fighting it for the past 2 years (different type from what you had). I'm always happy to hear a good outcome when it comes to cancer. No more alarm clocks or driving through bad weather sounds good to me too. Have a great time and take care of yourself. From what I have gathered on this site, you seem to be a great person and deserve great things like a complete recovery and an "extended vacation".
