Well we had a good showing at the Vererans Hospital in Richmond, and it was good to put a face with the name for all the Vette and Viper folks that were there.

A black SRT10 had just done some hellish donuts and sent a nuclear cloud of smoke up. Not to be outdone, the Veteran actually asks my friend if he could do a burnout in his C5 Vert also. So he complied, only to be blue lighted by the Federal Police that work at the VA.

The officer called the guy out on the PA, had him go to his knees, cuffed him and then threw him up aginst the car to frisk him, and then placed him in the police car. Meanwhile the Vet is in the car under the sweltering sun and he almost gets pulled out (wouldn't have been good as he had no use of his legs). Fortunately someone yelled that the passenger was a Vet.
By now a HUGE crouwd of Viper and Vette folks came out of the woodwork, and the cop gets scared and starts calling for back up and yelling at people to get back or get arrested. He advises one lady not to take any pictures that this was Federal Property and his jurisdiction.

The coordinator for the event and the VA got with the cop and he called his supervisor. He was ready to take the guy to jail, but wound up releasing him on a summons for reckless driving.

Other than that I don't know who won the HP challenge, but it was great weather and great folks in attendance.
Just spoke with my buddy and he has had an outpouring of support from
the Richmond Corvette Club and the guys over on the Viper forums

Goes to Federal Court in October.

I'd like to buy that kid (who called him a pu$$y) an ice cream

It is not illegal in any way whatsoever to take photographs of a police officer in the line of duty, even on Federal property, unless it is clearly posted "No Photography Permitted".

Federally owned property is one of the very few places (there are only a couple) where photography is not permitted, in which case only some military bases and or DOD sites fall into this category. The VA grounds are open to the public and although they could ask you to leave and arrest you for trespass should you fail to comply, they can not prevent you from taking photos nor can they legally confiscate said photos, film or digital media without a court order.

Again, nuclear power plants and some military or DOD sites are the only places where photography is not permitted and they must be clearly marked as such.

Even airports, including TSA security checkpoints, banks, malls or virtually any place the public is allowed, photography is legal. They can ask you to leave, but they can't prevent you from taking photographs.

The laws are very specific regarding photography and anyone is free to check out the above for themselves.

As to doing burnouts in the parking lot, that's another matter.

No Doubt,

Since 9/11, it is illegal to take pictures on the outside of an airport terminal. That was in the many changes that occurred right after 9/11. Maybe it has been officially changed recently, but I have not heard that. At the Atlanta airport, the police will tell you in no uncertain terms, no pictures of the approach to the terminal is allowed period!! They mean business.

No it isn't. You can take photos in an airport, including inside or outside of the terminals. You can take photos of security checkpoints including pesonnel and equipment in use. Virtually anything that is open to the public and can be seen by the public can be photographed. Photography for commercial purposes may require a permit, however.

With regard to civil airports, either before or after 9-11, there are no laws or odinances prohibiting it, nor will you see any legal signage stating same.

A lot of things changed since 9/11 but photography is NOT one of them. Security personnel often claim it's a matter of security, but they are flat wrong. If on private property you can be asked to leave, but they can not prohibit photography. Period. It has always been that way and 9/11 didn't change it.

The only exceptions are those I mentioned, in addition to instances where one has a "reasonable expectation of privacy", such as in ones home or office.

Civil airports are not and never have been off limits to photography, regardless of what security personnel claim.

Frankly, the only reason I even mentioned this was I knew someone would claim otherwise.

I refer you to the following with regards to this matter:

Here is the latest.......

I wrote a lengthly letter to the Richmond Times Dispatch, they might do a story on the incident, we'll see.

Several folks have written Senator John Warner and Congressman Eric Cantor, and the Director of the Veterans Administration

Does anyone have a VIDEO of the incident in question?

There is someone that is claiming to be the fellow in question posing as the owner, contacting one of the event's organizers looking for the video. He is a POSER.
I talked to the driver (a good friend of mine) and he made no such contact.

Does anyone here have any contact info for any members in the Corvette Club of Richmond (VA) shoot me a PM

Thanks
