4250 Z owners putting up $2,000 would make a cash deal !
If the track is open year round, 4250 owners divided by 50 weeks
= 85 cars running each weekend. I'd put up 2K to race for free every year for the rest of my life. Also, with a cash deal we should expect to operate at a profit on track rentals, etc.
I'll look into it further.
Maybe some super high roller out there can buy it and let all of us use it.
Yeah, right.
A sweet dream for sure... I agree that 2K for lifetime access would be a no brainer.... even more if I was within 100 miles. But alas, the great distance brings it down to earth... Now if you could buy 4 tracks for that price in each region of the country, then then sell "time shares"... might be the start of something workable... Likely need to expand outside the Z community, but heck isn't that what Porsche is for-- Moving Road Blocks?
Did anyone see that article in this months SportsCar (SCCA magazine)? Real cool... It talked about GHOST TRACKS around the country... some before and after pictures 50-80 years old long abandoned or developed... Some of them are partially covered in grass and brush, but the editors found solid pavement and thought 1 or 2 were restorable...;-) Real interesting reading.

It's a shame that Chevrolet/Corvette pulled out and moved over to, I think, Bondurant. For those that never have been, Spring Mountain is a great facility in the city of Pahrump, Nevada. The track was designed and built by Rupert Bragg-Smith and has served as a test track for many Corvette prototypes. Many other large automotive/motorcycle equipment manufacturers use Rupert's facility for testing. Local car clubs, including Corvette. Porche and Viper clubs, rent the track for their events. Rupert's Advanced Driving School is sponsored by Meguiar's, Goodyear, Mobil and Simple Green among others. The 10 turn track was designed specifically to test driver ability AND vehicle durability. Many prototype engines were laid victim to Rupert's track design as they were unable to withstand the centrifugal forces generated in some of the turns, and oil starvation to critical components sent them back to the drawing board. It is my understanding that the track basically pays for itself with the revenue collected from its' rental and from the school. Without Chevrolet's backing, I guess Advanced Driving School's future is on shaky ground.
I wish Rupert, his instructors and staff only the best. He and his facility is a class act.
