Used love that car. Of course, no comparison to ours, but the shape and mid-engine configuration appealed to me. Very expensive. Last year of production that I noticed was $100k a copy. Guess maybe the Z06 and Viper pushed it out of the market?
Agreed...they look good but...a very different car from a Z...nice but pretty tame. There was one at Summit Point last week...not very impressive in speed or sound, but looked nice. I think they are aluminum-bodied and insurance rates and repairs were pretty high...could have helped in them going away. Are they still available in Japan?

According to Honda it's coming back in 2008 or 09 with a "Formula 1 inspired" V10. Speculation has it that it may possibly have AWD and may even be front engined.
Yes, they had aluminum bodies and, at the time, what were considered exotic titanium connecting rods. And no, they are no longer being manufactured, even for the Japanese market.
The car is slow, has totally numb steering feel (atleast compared to the new Z06), has no sound at all and is way over priced. I'd buy a C5 Z06 anyday of the week over it, let alone the new Z06.
Just my take after driving the car on several occasions.
The one time I drove an NSX, I thought the car was over refined for a sports car. Not really fast compaired with a C5 and very quite. A business friend who owned the car said he has to get a new set of tires every 4 to 5 thousand miles. The early ones were known to eat up tires from what I heard.
I also felt the car dosen't really look good until you put some aftermarket wheels on them. The OEM's look to narrow for a low wide car.
Would I like to have one, damm right! But it would have to be a late model one without the pop up headlights.
I think the car looks nice... I don't know about owning one. I'd rather own an R34 Skyline... outperforms the nsx, too. The nsx has the looks and performance of 10+ years ago.
It's unbelieveable to me that they were asking so much money for such old technology and so little power. Looks like the next version intends to be in Ford GT territory in both price and performance.
early models up to 05 didnt have power steering so they had a really good feel to them, front was really light so it wasnt heavy steering.
the reason the backs wore out so fast was because they had so much rear toe to give the car artificial understeer, yeah they lasted about 5k miles on the rear.
never drove one but have been in plenty of rides and can say they feel like suped up honda civics. no balls whatsoever but man they look cool. was actually looking into them before i got my Z, they are so damn expensive for a car that only has looks and the feel of a civic.
the motor is state of the art for its time but god i hate transverse motors, such a pain to work on. the bodies were all aluminum, the repair shop by my house that does nsx specialty repair said that anything more than 15-20 mph hit in the front and the car is a guaranteed total wreck, aluminum bending all over the car making it worthless to repair.
the cars curb weight came in at almost exactly what the zo6 does and its got a steel frame and a v8 pumping well over 100 more hp and gobs more torque.
overall i still love the car but for the money it is something i would only buy if i had $90k to wipe my ass with, even used its not worth $35k for a car with 50k+ miles on it and torn/cracked interior.
btw the zenardi eddition was a limeted edition race version that was only offered as a hardtop. they went all out to reduce weight on the car, even bragged that they made the shift boot out of some special fiber to reduce its weight by like 3 grams......the car came with AC standard :/

They are really great cars but I think the lack of power and high price killed them. The replacement has been rumoured for some time last I heard they dropped the v10 in favor of a v8 that they could share with other cars in the honda/acura line.

The C6 Z06 has an aluminum frame with a magnesium engine cradle and roof structure. The C5 Z06 has a steel frame.
You also have to remember that in 1990 when it was released, it had 270 h.p. (increased to 290 h.p. in 97'). The base Corvette at the time (1990) had 250 h.p.
I remember way back when...the Mazda RX7 turbo was said to put the NSX on the trailer..(magazine writers not me)
The NSX did quite a job in getting Ferrari, Lamborghini etc to make supercars or exotic cars that did not require such ridiculously high cost or continued maintaince..
Thank the fear of Japanese reliability and exotic car looks to get Ferrari and other exotic manufacturer to wise up....and only require mildly more expensive maintaince programs..
The new F430 is a much better "car" not only as far as its level of performance but from an ownership standpoint with regards to normal maintaince...
Other than that...the NSX is pretty much a nice sports car with moderate performance ...

ya i was reffering it to the c5 zo6, since the nsx was discontinued by the time the c6 zo6 came out. but it was still in dealer showrooms long after the c5 zo6 came out and it wasnt any lighter.
The car had 290hp in '90 and that never really changed much. They never got with the times. But, I agree... the car was groundbreaking when it first came out.
