Last year, the first week of July, I had read or watched countless roadtests. Each one had performance numbers. This year, all the articles so far are just "First Looks." (Except for Hib's, that was awsome!) The only numbers I've seen are from GM. Which brings me to another point. Does anyone think that the 02 can really do 3.9 sec. 0-60? From what I've seen, the 01 will do it anywhere from 4.24 to 4.53 sec. It looks like chevy was a little optimistic about the 01. The trouble now is that they have to say that the 02 is quicker than the 01, so they say it'll do 0-60 in 3.9 sec. I think the extra 20hp will only be good for another 0.2 sec. so it will still come up short of the 4.0 sec. mark in most tests. Is chevy digging themselves deeper, or am I just splitting hairs?

I agree with your skepticism. I would be surprised to see someone pull a sub-4 second 0-60 with a bone stock 2002 Z06 with stock tires. But hey, I'd love to be wrong on this one

The number is not arbitrary. Large companies don't work like this.

With that said, you can bet your last dollar that there was a huge series of meetings on the ideal weather conditions/track conditions, and maybe some "tweaking" to get this number and the car was probably a thrashed, possibly worn out, loose test engine....You never know what it took, but I guarantee they got it to sub 4 at least once. Will we or the rest of the world ever duplicate? Probably not.

I agree with Snake, but if you're into 0-60 times, don't look at this car to do it. GM apparently gave all the mags the "correct" launch procedure to obtain 4.0 secs for the '01 Z06 and still nobody could reproduce it. If the car were AWD I think that number would be realistic. Let's hope for low 12 sec times instead. For me, I don't care too much about numbers. The car is simply bada$$, and that's all that matters.
