Where/how can I go to test the limits?

Okay, heres the deal. I am in the DFW Metroplex. THere is not a hell of a lot of room for me to "stretch my legs" in this car. I am not really into street racing as I hear too many stories about accidents and such, can't trust the other driver (If he crashes, I can go to jail!) and have no desire to endanger other peoples lives.

I know ther HAS to be someplace I con open this car up and get to push the limits a bit, but WHERE and HOW? I was thinking about joining the Texas Motorsport Ranch, but I dont think I want to spend that much dough just to track the car occasionally.

I would take it out on some back road somewhere but dont want to risk hitting a deer or something. (Did that once in my old mustang years ago and dont wish to do it again )

Any advice that can be offered would be appreciated.

You can always take it to an AutoX. You won't get the car up to 177, but you will be able to push the limits. Best of all it is cheap around $30 for the entry fee. Check the SCCA and local car club websites for events in your area.

Take a drive through West Texas 83 or 277, particulary on an early Sunday morning. That's what I do.

Check this out. You are limited to 130 mph average the first time unless you have some sort of sanctioned racing license.

Silver State Classic is cool too if you can make the trek out to Nevada. I know that Nebraska has a similar event, but I think that the restrictions are greater. You have to have a lot more safety equipment on board if you want to run the speeds that you want to.

There are numerous DE clubs in the Texas area. Go to one and watch the other guys drive their cars on the track, legally, at high speed all day long. Next time I'll bet you are out there and having a blast.
Ask Leslie. Last year she did her first DE and now seems to be going about every month.
