We live in a bored and spoiled society. The very people who claim to be so tolerant won't even let you chose what you drive. I can't for the life of me figure out why I have to justify what I drive to any "joe shmo" on the street. People should just accept that SUV's are practical for some of us. And it's none of their concern even if we buy them just because we want to.

A lot of SUV drivers feel overly safe and drive too fast and often reckless for conditions...I amost got run over by a female on a cell phone in a Lincoln Navigator while in my Z.. she acted like she was aiming the damn thing! But, since this is America, guess we have to live with it.
1) California is THE most over governed state in the US. I just moved back to NY from Hermosa Beach after a 2.5 year stay and I was disgusted with the over-governing that I read about each day in the papers.
2) The CHP is paid for almost exclusively by car/truck registrations. While that's a good point on it's own, you pay more for heavier vehicles. My '01 X5 4.4i cost me close to $1000 A YEAR to register in California. On LI it's less than $200.
California needs to pull it's head out of it's butt. They probably passed a law prohibiting more laws and no one realizes it.
My last point is for the NY'ers on here. Sen. Schumer, who is barely better than Bill's husband Hillary, proposed the same legislature here in NY, and it would ban the same types of vehicles from the parkways (no trucks on parkways, just expressways in NY). SO, keep an eye out for that when you vote in November.

I'm sure you will agree that it is not just SUV owners who drive like that.
I guess some of the things that bother me with large SUV's are the people who are either not capable of driving or parking them correctly or just don't care because THEY are in a tank. I often see both men and women alike that cannot keep them in their own lane and couldn't dream of parking them without using the part of the other space. I drove tractor trailers for 8+ years while putting my wife through school and these are much larger vehicles that I managed to keep in my lane..... I have had some people tell me they bought them for their wives because they don't drive well and they worry about them. Well thanks put everyone elses life in danger instead of teaching the person how to drive. My wife doesn't park well so guess what. Her main vehicle is a Jeep wrangler. She can not park perfect as usual but is still able to keep it well in her parking spot or in her lane because it is not a tank.
just my 2 cents.

Do I need to say anymore?
More importantly, since he can't seem to grasp the difference
between GVWR, a legislative number, and the actual weight
of the vehicle, it's pretty clear he's a typical LLL moron.
Their argument just highlights the ongoing hypocrisy that surrounds big SUV ownership. The GVWR is the manufacturer's estimate of the vehicle's curb weight, or unloaded weight, plus its maximum payload capacity including passengers and cargo. A number of big SUVs, including the Toyota Sequoia and the Lincoln Navigator, straddle the 3-ton line: Their curb weights are under 6K, but their GVWRs are over (although in the case of the four-wheel-drive Navigator, the curb weight is 5,995 lbs.).

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.
The ironic thing is that the most vocal of these "gas guzzler" opponents are often driving vehicles that put out significantly more emissions than a new SUV. (i.e. a 1978 corolla requiring a quart of oil with every tank of gas) I agree that poor gas mileage is a problem, but my kids are not going to be riding around in a Prius anytime soon. My primary concern is one of safety.
Those of you who actually need an SUV I have no problem with. The rest of the 21 year old 115 lb college girls who are driving them are killing people at an alarming rate.
