Z06 vs C5 purchase

Greetings..I know this is all up to individual tastes but I thought I would throw this out to help make my decision.

I just (this morning) sold my '68 Camaro on ebay. I am really hung up on the C5 vettes. My quandry is...purchase a lower mile '02 Z06 in the $33-$37K range or go for a "standard" C5 for less and add a turbocharger. I'm figuring the end cost would be comparable between the two. Any thought? Thanks for the help...I've just been a gear head for older muscle cars and am not as up on the the slick new machines.

IMHO I think you'd be much happier with the Z06. It has many more qualities that are not found on a basic C5 unless you opt for it. Putting a turbo on a base car will certainly help in the straight line category but you're going to have engine issued down the road and will end up putting a lot of money into the engine. Again JMHO.

The Z06 is an awesome car.

Thanks!

My wife is just stuck on the fixed hard-top...I guess she wants to gaze at the sky. I was figuring the Z06 was the smarter choice and have done quite a bit of research on the car. Anyways...I'm moping around since I sold my Camaro in hopes she will just give up and let me buy what I want.

Adding a turbo will cost more than the difference in price Between an 02 Z and and 02 C5. For the price range you quoted you can find an 03 Z which still has some warranty on it. The turbo C5 will be harder on fuel, no warranty and will not handle as well as the Z. Having said that, the coupe does have the open roof and if you went headers, Vararam, 3.73 gears and LS1 edit you can match the Zs straight line performance and still have that warranty and reliability.

That's easy buy the Z06 and you'll never look back. Distinctive looks, Handling, performance and resale are all in your favor with the Z06. I don't care how fast you make C5, it will never be a Z06.

If the cars for your wife then get the coupe...

If the car is for you and you want one of the best sports cars right out of the box..

Get the 2002 Z06...

Good luck..

I vote for a low mile Z06. The turbo will add up to a lot of money with all the other upgrades needed.

Good luck

PS..buy the wifey a Solstice 20 grand convertible sports car next year...

Show her a picture and tell her thats what you want to get her...

It'll give you time to get what you want etc..and by the time the solstice comes out....there be a few Negatives...(trunk room)etc that you won't care about but she might....so you'll be in the car you want...and off the hook as far as getting her a solstice...

Althoug..the solstice is a nice little inexpensive convertible to have a hottie beautiful wife driving around in....

Tell her its a porsche before asking her if she likes it...

They take that GM credit card bonus points on the car too...

5% of all purchases ...towards the price of a new car..

1800-947-1000 ...get the card and put 20 grand of everyday expenses on it..and you get an extra 1,000 dollars off the solstice...

or whatever else she wants..

Buy the Z. You'll never look back.

I drove all three (coupe and vert) and found the coupe boring and hated the terrarium look. The handling was so so and the performance was a yawn.

The Z is a whole new game. It moves, sounds great and handles like few others. Plus you get the larger wheel size right off the bat.
