Baseline Dyno Results

Put my 07 (510 miles) on our local SuperFlow dyno today and ended up with a best of 416.2hp and 395 lbs-ft (both corrected) which compared to most of the numbers I've seen on the forum - is below par. The only connection to the car was a probe stuck up its right exhaust tip. We used 4th gear and hit 157.9 mph. It was interesting to watch what happened when the exhaust butterflies opened as the Air/Fuel ratio went from 11.2 (a little rich) to 18:1 (a LOT LEAN) when they opened for a good portion of the run and then dropped back to 11.6 or so at about 6500 rpm. I pulled the fuse and it recorded an 18:1 from 1900 rpm until about 6500 rpm where it again returned to normal. Anybody else seen this behavior? These numbers may be OK for the dyno setup used but it sure wasn't what I expected. Would appreciate some feedback.

Thanks!

I don't know much about how superflow dyno's compare but I'd check around for a dynojet, run it again, and see how that compares. They seem to be the standard.

Re: Baseline Dyno Results

I dynoed on this particular dyno several years ago and the readings were consistant with what I pulled on a Dyno Jet and Mustang. Just a FYI.

Re: Baseline Dyno Results

You need to dyno with the probe in the tip with the butterfly, thats why the false readings.

A little rich would be 12.2 - 12.
11.2 is way rich, even a turbo car we run at 11.5-11.8.

When I dyno'd mine the first time, they put the tube in the pipe that doesn't get any exhaust. LOL

Re: Baseline Dyno Results

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Jub and I are going to use my car to enhance his C6 Z06 tuning skills and I'm sure he will share the adventure.

I'll stick with the current dyno since it has provided a baseline and install an O2 bung ahead of the CATs. After we're done, I'll look for a dynojet to compare the numbers. I think the straight through (butterfly) pipe scavenges air from the outer pipe until it reaches its flow limit when the exhaust starts going out the outer pipe. Just a guess but it's the only approach that makes sense.

Also looking at a Killer Bee intake to clean up the incoming airflow. Exhaust is still in question.

Thanks again guys and have a Great Christmas!

The only time I've heard of anything like this was with the MAF. When the guy put on a cold air intake he sprayed to much of the oil on the filter and it got in the MAF after driving it, he bought a cleaner for it and worked just fine. I've never seen a dyno with just a clip on one side of the exhaust, it could have just not gotten the right amount of flow til your higher RPM.
