LG pro headers +halltec gains (no tune)

Well. It has been only a week since I did the last bone stock dyno and since then I added the LG pro headers and the Halltec Air Filter.

The power went up from 456.72 whp to 470.44whp and the torque went up from 427.20lb-tq to 449.66lb-tq.

If you guys pay attention to the dyno in some areas the gains are about 33whp(in the lower rpm) and the torque is around 22lb-tq more in some areas.

I am running HFC cats so technically I could see even more gains. The car is not tune yet. I am definately happy. Last but not least I want to mention that remoing te fuse for the rear muffler buterflies made a huge difference in sound, hp and torque.

Here is my prior topic with stock dynos:
08 Z06 stock Dyno numbers(457whp/427lb-tq)

Here is the dyno:

Re: LG pro headers +halltec gains (no tune)

Unfortunately, putting headers on the C6 Z has very minimal power gain. I've watched the dynos on a bone stock C6Z and then the comparison when adding 3 different headers (including LG's) and except for a little mid range torque gain, the rwhp increase was extremely nominal. Certainly not worth the money spent IMHO.
The good news is that just tells us how much improvement was made at the factory in the C6 exhaust manifold as compared with the C5.

Sounds like you picked up a few ponies with the Haltech intake though. That's the best power mod you can make on this car without going into the engine.

Now get that baby tuned and you'll see some nice power gains

Mike

Re: LG pro headers +halltec gains (no tune)

The stock system is good... however, what you can get from a properly designed system (heads, cam headers) will always do better as a matched set. Getting that motor breathing better is always good. That is taking into account the changes in primary length, that needs to follow all other mods.

Adding heads and a cam is a totally different scenario than just adding a CAI and headers......

Re: LG pro headers +halltec gains (no tune)

My '06 picked up 27rwhp w/ LT headers & old school Halltech F1 filter element w/o a tune. I remember being shocked @ that gain, as the sentiment was that all the HP was in the tune, and minimal elsewhere. The tune only netted an additional 10rwhp after that.

It seems YMMV in this case...

Probably just a bad dyno

Re: LG pro headers +halltec gains (no tune)

We have also installed the LG longtube headders. But, we installed the vararam intake instead. Deleted the cats and have a tune for it. Just waiting to get it on the dyno. But from the seat of your pants you can deffinatly tell a diffrence in power. Atleast 50rwhp. And probably the biggest gain, or loss. Was the weight of the LG Headders was signicantlly less than the stock ones. about 20 pounds

Re: LG pro headers +halltec gains (no tune)

I thought I knew the set-up I wanted on my car till I joined this site!! Everybody has such different opinions about headers, intakes and exhaust systems. Wow. It's hard to tell what actually makes HP gains and what is just going to cost a lot of money and do nothing.... Thanks for the confusion. JK

1st. Get tuned then you will see REAL GAINS. I say 490

About the comment on LT's not worth it on these cars, no I dont agree. Yes the stock system is pretty good but Longtubes are definitely better. The car will breathe and perform better.
On the dyno you may not see huge PEAK Gains in HP and TQ but under through the RPMS you will see a significant difference. Tuned you pick up great mid-range power

Zee, how much mid-range rwhp and rwtq did you pick up on your C6Z with the headers? Also, curious about your peak gains?

Do you have your before and after dyno sheet handy? Would like to see your gains.

Thanks!

Mike

Re: LG pro headers +halltec gains (no tune)

As a new Z06 owner (as of 5/1 NCM delivery!!) I too am looking for the best HP/torque bang for the buck once mine is broken in. Dyno numbers are great but does anyone have 1/4 mile et's and mph for stock and then with mods? Have a friend with an 06 Z06 and after headers, intake and tune it ran slower at the track! He was really upset because his dyno sheets say he gained on paper. Anyone have both dyno and track numbers??

Thanks,

Re: LG pro headers +halltec gains (no tune)

were the weather conditions the same as he ran before? same track temp, same air temp/ moisture? that will have something to do with his times
