Hello everyone, this is my first post and I just wanna say off-hand that this is a great site, tons of info, I got my '06 Z06 a couple of months ago and its still bone stock. My first question is about tuning.
Is it true that a dyno tune or a regular hand held tune will void the powertrain warranty? I was talking to my service guy at the dealer and he said GM changed their policy and are now voiding warranties due to tunes. Does anyone have any idea if this is true? I thinking about getting a Haltech Killer Bee + Borla Catback + an AA dyno tune but now I'm holding off on everything until I know what's going on with GM's policy. TIA
In a word YES. Any reprogramming of the Computer will void the powertrain Warranty.
Ford has been doing this for quite awhile. Along with many other manufactures. You can't really expect GM to honor a powertrain warranty when you changed the computer to produce more horsepower. In the past many Dealers would look the other way and honor the factory warranty. It's now my understanding that before any warranty work is preformed the Dealer must scan your computer to see if it has been modified and if it is, you are on your own. It was nice while it lasted. No more free lunch.
Changing your exhaust and air intake does not require a computer change and unless your dealer is hard-nosed you should be OK. (at Dealers discretion)

Welcome to
I can't help on your question, beyond what IT L GO said ...
Haltech, I *think* has a tune to go with the intake ... don't know if it can be applied, and backed out at will ... don't know if it leaves evidence in "memory" ... don't know the extent that "relearn" will adjust AFR ... or where in the power band it works ...
I don't know nuttin' ...

what did you mod?? if its just bolt ons and no engnine light dont tune it, but i put on LT headers, killer Bee intake, Borla S type, Stage 2 livernois Cam and after that, had to do a full dyno tune..now Livernois say they stand behind the cam work, pushrods, and dual springs, the dealer did everything else, and of all the cars i've owned the engine isnt what i have a problem with, its the broken window gear, or rattle in ball joint or something that has nothing to do with the race engine they put in this thing. I dont know, i guess i can afford just about any problem that might come up with, so i wasnt going to wait 5 years to get my car the way i wanted it off the lot. So, if for some reason they deny me at the dealer, (for any reason) oh well guess thats the risk i was willing to take, and let me tell you oh man was it worth it, but i can understand the worry, its and expensive car to play around with, but remember you're not promised tomorrow, so drive what you really wanted today!!!
Search this on the big forum's C6 Z06 section. We covered this at length. Bottom line, to deny a warranty claim the modification must have "caused" the failure. Tune could void coverage for any driveline component subject to the added stress of more power. It could also void coverage if it caused a lean condition for instance and a piston melted. The warranty coverage must be analyzed on a case by case basis since the warranty itself uses the "cause" standard. Of course, you might have to fight GM.
My dealer installed my headers..no problems with my warranty about that..I'd take it to another dealer and talk to there service manager and ask him about installing your headers. i had 2 within 10 miles say they do it with no warranty issues. So if you want them, go somewhere else..I love my headers!!

Welcome on board. First thing to do is ask the service dept. manager. It's not like it was in the muscle car days where the service manager had a hot rod of his own so he understood your objectives well and was on board. I used to see one at the strip all the time in the early 70's. In fact he got me discounts on my HiPo parts. We even raced each other several times. There mod free dealerships and those that go by the book. You may have to go to another nearby city to find the right one for warranty work. Just call or talk to the service dept. manager and see where his head is at. From what I've seen most of the guys are could care less. The bad ones get known fast so ask around.
HI there,
This is very true that a relationship with your dealership is a good thing to have.
Most will abide by EPA/CARB certification headers.
Changing or removing converters per EPA legalities will produce a fine from them, if its NOT for off road use only.
Some dealerships will NOT bother with worrying about legalities, due to the money they get from the job.
As for warranty, what part of the emissions systems are you talking about would be key?
O2 sensor activity codes or catalytic converter codes are also suspect when talking about warranty.
However, to void the entire warranty of the car is ludicrous.
Each mod has its variables, and its key that your DEALERSHIP know the difference and how it affects the car.
Allthebest, c4c5

I had my last car "tuned" and sure it was better when the stars and the moon lined up...but over all? The factory tune is a better all around vehicle tune.
Leave the car alone would be my suggestion...
Car goes 198 mph...zero to 60 in 3.5 seconds..STOCK!
