Is anyone out there using a Vortech or Procharger on a C6 Z-06? If so, I would like to hear from you about your experiences, especially quarter-mile times on a basically stock motor. I'm considering putting one on my 2007 Z-06.
Thanks,
Bill k5wg@swbell.net
Several people here are using Procharger D1's and have not had any problems. However I heard from reliable sources that the LS7's dont like FI for too long if you rev it out to redline all the time. The rear end gets worn out also!

A C6Z with a Procharger (or Vortech or Paxton Novi) running about 4 to 5 lbs boost should allow you to get in the high to mid 10's with practice and tires.

Thanks, Mike. By "tires," are you referring to drag radials, or better road tires like the Michelin Pilot Sport 345s? I'm wondering what the potential quarter-mile times would be on a C6 Z-06 with a full after-market exhaust system and a centrifugal supercharger running around 4 psi of boost with the Pilot Sport 345s on the rear.

Bill, I'm referring to DR's unless you can get the Pilot's to hook up strong at the line.

Thanks, Mike. I thought that's probably what you meant. With drag radials am I correct in assuming that the transaxle will need to be beefed up (hardened output shaft, etc.)? Is the stock clutch up to the task? I will only be going to the drag strip about once a year. The car will be driven about 500 miles a year.

Bill, if you were going to be going to the strip multiple times each year, I would probably recommend a hardened half shaft. However, if you only anticipate going to the drags once per year, I probably wouldn't bother.
As for the clutch.....hey use it till it breaks THEN worry about upgrading. If your not using the clutch hard on the strip or street, the stock clutch will hold up just fine for a long time (even with the new power levels).

Thanks for the input, Mike. I'm wondering - are there any tires that provide significantly better traction than the stock rear tires on a C6 Z-06, without hurting the handling characteristics? That's why I'm considering the Michelin 345s instead of drag radials. I like to drive the twisties on occasion. I suspect that the only viable strategy is to have two sets of rear tires and change them to match the type of driving that you plan to do.
I would like to hear from some more sources on the Procharger kits. I played around with a c6 non z with a procharger today in my stg2 Sti and it sounded great. I would like to get a z06 as my next car but I have a feeling I will be content with the stock power except full exhaust and tune. However, out of curiosity sake, how reliable is a FI LS7
A friend of mine has had a Vortech supercharger on a 2002 Vette for three or four years now with no problems whatsoever. It runs fantastic (it's significantly faster than my stock C6 Z-06) and he loves it. I think the reliability will not be an issue on a C6 Z-06 as long as you hold the boost down to a reasonable level (not over five pounds) and have an expert tune the car.

I'm looking hard at the Vortech unit. It's very quiet and has a positive lubrication system using the engine's oil, which I think is superior to a closed lubrication system like the Procharger uses.
