Best superchargers currently? Do you have to change heads/cam etc to use one?

Also...

Has anyone installed a bottle in a C6 Z06 here? Is it safe for the engine? I know nothing about it, but would like to have an extra 100-200hp on tap. opinions? Best Systems? Easiest to use? Thanks.

Re: Supercharger Opinion > '08 Z06

There are several blowers out there and most are quality products. You first have to decide whether you want to use a centrifugal blower (like Procharger or Paxton) or a roots type blower (like KB and Maggie).

Second, you have to realize your limitations with a stock LS7 engine. It has an 11.5:1 compression ratio amd non forged pistons. That means that boost, either from a blower or a nitrous kit, must be very tame.

There are several threads on this subject in the power adders sections so I will only hit the highlights....

If you do not want to lower your compression by porting out the combustion chamber of your heads, replacing oem pistons with dished or even using a thicker head gasket, then the amount of boost you run should probably remain under 6 lbs. If you install a meth kit, you can probably run the boost just a little higher.

If I were going to modify my C6Z, I would probably just throw on a Procharger P1-SC and run about 4.5 to 5 lbs boost. Except for injectors and a tune, additional modifications are not required.
The first C6Z that I saw MC Racing do that to, went to the track the day he got it back and ran a 10.8 on his first pass.

The setup I described above is very safe and should run around town like a stock set-up...until the extra power is needed.

If you want to go for bigger power, then some engine modifications are required...but that's a whole different subject.

Mike

Look into the Procharger, like Mike recommends. Another alternative is the STS TT system. I think they had an article in Vette magazine where they had a C6Z with the STS kit. Good luck.

Re: Supercharger Opinion > '08 Z06

Thanks!

After speaking with several different "pro's" today, Ive decided to stay away from voiding my warranty so soon... and I'm going to ad the following mods:
  • B&B Fusion Exhaust (already on it's way to me)
  • B&B X-pipe
  • BPP Step Headers
  • BPP Short Throw Shifter
  • Pfadt Sway Bars
  • Re-Tune
  • (I really want to upgrade the brakes, but the only significant difference I'm told is a full set of Brembo's which at $8k is pretty steep for a car that I don't track (yet, lol) >>> any advice on this would be great too. I think the factory brakes "blow" compared to some other high end sports cars. (I don't think I'm alone on this)
Then I'm "done" >>> ... she should have about 525rwhp by then... that should hold me over until the next body style comes out... which is when? 2011? 3 years is perfect... I'll get the C7 coupe and then I'll go nuts with twin turbo chargers / cam / heads / etc... (if I can't afford a Murcielago yet ;-)) Thanks again...

If you want to have a little more fun with it, add a mild cam. Keep us posted.

I would, but I don't want to void the warrantee. If I'm going to go with a cam, why go mild anyway? ;-)

I'm not sure exactly where you come up with 525 rwhp with those mods??

I don't care one way or another whether you go with a power adder, but someone has led you astray if you think those mods you listed will give you that type of increase.

The only things you've listed that will give you additional giddyup is the tune and at most you will be in the 475-485rwhp range. The exhaust will net you 0 gains and the headers/x-pipe, I'm sorry to say will be very dissapointing too.

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with the mods you're contemplating, but except for the tune you have no real hp gains.

Mike

Mild cam for driveability and reliability. Warranty? Who cares?

And are you saying adding a sc or tt on a Z06 wont void your warranty?? :-)
