I bought the first year of the so called King of the Hill 1990 ZR1. Only bought it because of Desert Shield/Storm. Paid a mighty price for it too. They built 3,049 in 1990, 2,044 in 1991. By 1992 they built only 502, in 1993-95 only 448 units.
My stock 02 and 03 Z06's would have eaten my 1990 ZR1 for lunch off the showroom floor. No comment what the LS7 Z06 would have done.
I've seen new 2008 Z06's for $68K with GM discounts etc. That's a good buy.
And anyone who races these cars knows the LS7 Z06 over powers the street and can get you in trouble quickly. But gentle enough to lug around town as a cruiser. Just get caught going through 3rd gear at 120 mph plus onto the freeway and your car is gone and so is your license. The LS7 Z06 is the best built Z06 so far so don't let some auction get you down. All my hauling ass will be on the track because I know the car has 11 seconds written on it. All day too.
Let's see how many ZR1's you see on the street or strip and for how many years in production? If it's anything like the first ZR1 it's life on this planet is limited. 620hp is too much hp for the street simple as that. I don't see the car around for along. Just my opinion only. Don't feel down you have a winner in the LS7's. Enjoy the car. :mug:
There are MANY modded Z's making alot more than 620 RWHP let alone 620 crank HP. It all depends how much self control you have. I don't think it is necessarilly fair to say that 620 hp is too much for the street.

but you are also talking about 12 to 13 years difference. At the time in the 90's, the ZR1 was probably king of the road compared to the other cars of the time. It's like saying a F16 is faster than a P51. Of course, look at the time difference.

Imagine what we'll be driving in 2021! Or should I say, FLYING!!
George, you are sooooo right on. I have a hell of a time keeping my foot out of it (2008 Z06). Like my wife says " this is all I need is to see a 60 year old guy in cuffs". That's my 2 cents.

More HP/TQ the better in my book..yes plenty of modded Z's but I've found that people are less inclined to Mod the C6Z vs. the C5 Z!!!
Hence, I had a BRAND NEW IN THE BOX STAGE 5 H/C PACKAGE..HEADERS AND EXHAUST ALL THE UPGRADES...I WOULD A MADE A HELL OF A DEAL FOR SOMEONE...EASILY 600RWHP...NOBODY WOULD TAKE IT
Esp. locally, guys "Oooh No..uh I got a 427, its enough..Oh my WIFE would never...blah blah blah..gimme a break...

Is there EVER too much HP for the street? Not in my opinion, especially if it's nice streetable combination that today's technology provides us with. These dam kids today with their turbos and Honda's & Nissan's are making as much HP as our Z06! Always nice to show them the tailpipes if you want.
The ZR1 will be the ultimate king of VALUE if they can be had for $100K. With the outstanding brakes and awesome engine nothing else will be close to the performance & handling without spending $150K - $200K more.
The best part about being supercharged I learned from owning my 03 Ford Mustang Cobra. For only $1,000 of bolt on parts people will be able to crank up thr ZR1 to 700+ HP in their own garage with 2-3 hours of turning basic wrenches. Soon after there are guys who will be raising the boost even higher and getting 800hp without tearing into the engine - that's cool and what a value!
