That can be said for just about any car, especially any performance oriented car or even cars some people feel are prerformance oriented. The Corvette is certainly no exception as there is a good amount of that right here, frequently, in one form or another.
The fact is both are great cars in their own way and are similar in intent and identity, although different in execution.

The great thing is, I don't have allegiance to either car. Given a choice, I would buy the Z-06 over the Viper in a heartbeat. And the upcoming ZR1 makes the choice even better.

I drove in an 08 Viper today, and I got to say that it is pretty damn fast. I would compare it to my old Procharged 04 Z06. Power delivery is different than previous Vipers. My 06 Coupe was quick, but it was very linear, while the new Viper has more punch in the upper RPMs.
I have to admit, I have an ACR on order, and will be getting one of the first ones in March or April. I plan to track it as much as possible. It is like the comp coupe, only you can drive it to the track. While I believe the ACR will be a winner on the track, the ZR1 will be a crazy fast car in the quarter and 0-60 times.
As far as the Viper owner asshole comments, yes, there are a lot of elitest, asshole Viper owners out there, but the same can be said about Vette owners. am a member of all the Viper boards including ViperAlley, and I have to tell you, that most of the main posters there are some of the nicest, down to earth people you will ever have the pleasure to meet. I have to say the same for this board as well. Definately some fine people here!
So if any SoCal members here go to the track, hit me up after April and I will try to meet up with you with the new ACR.

I will concur. I was around the local Viper group and all of the boards for a couple three years and agree that there are Aholes in both groups. PERIOD. However, two of the biggest Aholes I have ever met in my life, both belong to the local Viper Club.
I can't wait to see the ACR and the ZR-1 battling it out on the twisties. It's going to be fun. This is what performance cars are all about. I'm lovin it.

The fact is, I don't give a damn what goes on in other car forums...just this one.
1) it doesn't matter if one has 1000 HP and the other one has 180HP. Which is faster? We have only magazine test data to compare and if the viper is faster... well its faster. One has to give credit where credit is due.
Keep in mind a few things: Formula1... They all have v10s... why? Its the most efficient configuration between total valve area and reciprocating losses. So going to a v8 will simply drop its output. The C6Rs that where being sold where what? 500CID to make 600HP? what was the cost of such a vehicle?? 225k? I think the viper has another point there.
Now onto the vette...
Well... I would love to see a comparison of a 2006 z06 vs a 2008 Viper... why? because the 2006 Z06 was the fastest one... The 2008, most of its enhancements were on the luxury side to attract a different class of buyers that were also interested in the performance level to compete with the m5 and other vehicles... It has an upgraded tranny and that is about it. What else is different??? ZERO, zilch... it still has 505 HP and getting closer to those 505HP vs 535HP that the 2006 more or less had when testing it on dyno's. We have a slightly heavier z06 for 2008 and the same if not less HP!. GM will come up with something new (i hope) for the z06 pretty soon to simply close that .1 and 1mph gap. Either way with that short difference they would have to make a few more runs to see if that .1 and 1mph is a statistiaclly differentiable. If not? they are just about the same and all will depend on the jockey. But with the 06vs06s the viper was ALWAYS slower 1/4 mile, 0-60, track times and I am sure even in reverse the vette was faster.
In the end... The viper has no active handling... its really NOT that good at daily driving (very uncomfortable, hot no adjustments and I feel claustrophobic in there).. its a lot rougher than the vette and its just as fast... So it will all boil down to what do you want the car for and your personal choice and opinion and of course... Price.. i think the viper is priced higher than the vette... Credit where credit is due... But i still think the vette is a better buy and a better car overall.
One other point... Neither the viper nor the Ford GT are sold here.. why? they can't be sold... nobody wants them... yet the z06... its sold everywhere and everytime someone gets its hands on one. This is just like movies... In the end, it doesn't matter the critics, it matters on the box office.

the people that have the money to spend on a viper rather buy something else like the z06. The last viper that was for sale in Page Ranking had to be returned to the factory because it didn't sell... Same thing happened to the ford GT.
Anyways... you seriously need to go to school if it took you a few minutes to read that post.
