[quote=rr71546;1235282]This is the dealership that is wanting 250K to 500K for each ZR1 for 2009. I called GM and they told me that they cannot control their franchisees and are not willing to downgrade their relationship with the dealer! What about the loyal GM customer. Things are getting lots clearer!

I can understand (although I don't agree) a $5k - $20k markup on a $100k ZR1. But asking 2.5 X to 5X of the MSRP price is just insane...
That's crazy markup...my dealer said flat out 50K over invoice. In any case, I wouldn't buy ANY car the first year it's out after a major redesign. Wait till they identify and fix the bugs (and there certainly will be) and get a 2010. By then, they'll realize their asking price of 250K-500K is just outrageous. At these asking prices, these ZR1s will be sitting in inventory right next to the Silverados and Cobalts...

The wife and I were looking into Pontiac Torrents for the longest time...just could not find one w/ the options we wanted locally for the price I was willing to pay. I went back and forth over email w/ one of their dealerships in the Northeast....ended up coining the phrase "Heard the turd."
Eventually bought an '08 Saturn Vue for no hassle and it fit our budget and needs.
I hate to say it, but this will be par for the course w/ limited production high-po domestics. I think I remember my dad telling me that the GNX's in the 80's were sold via sealed envelope / highest bidder.
Just wish I had $100k+ to buy something...I'm waiting out a used low mileage '10 CTS-V.

250K-500K IS REDICULOUS! BUT, Dealers are losing alot of money. Can't sell diesel and trade values on 8 cylinder sport utilities stink. It is tough to sell cars and trucks right now. This will help alot of dealers stay afloat. Owner loyalty is great if your dealer can stay in business!
I guess I'll get in line for the flames as well. My dealer up north( allocation was three) decided to keep two for the 2 owners and sell the third for 150,000...................he is now trying to buy several from other dealers because he has several deals lined up for $200,000. He is supposed to turn those people down................come on people--it is not all the dealers fault-----there is just too many wealthy individuals who buy because they got to have it..............
So what do we average folk do??????????? just like I did in the early nineties---A doctor bought a 90 ZR-1 and paid my dealer $82,000 for the car. A year and half later, I bought the car w/ 6,000 miles on it for 32,000.....tracked it for over two years, traveled all over the northeast and put 35,000 miles on it and then sold it that second year of ownership for 32,000. Two great years of fun for three sets of tires and 5 or 6 sets of brakes....
re the ZR1--------------------------my contacts with the dealer up north and now contacting several Fla dealerships is to get on the "Used" list....prices for new will come down---as they did on the ZO6 ....and some of the wealthy will get tired of this toy and several of us will get a great buy.
It will be interesting to see if any new ZR1's end up @ auction!

Everyone just needs to be patient...let the "fools" part with their money and get a great deal later on. Who needs to be first? Well for starters those that have to prove something because they have no other means of being thought of for anything other than their material possessions....I know many of these people...it was funny to watch someone pay $600 for a Razor phone and will be even more hilarious to watch some idiot pay way over sticker for this car. Message to the suckers....thank you because you save smart guys like me lots of money and enable me to enjoy many cars at huge discounted rates.

With that type of markup you could buy a used C6Z06 and modify it way beyond the ZR1 capailities and smile at one in your mirror as you leave it behind.

I don't think so. With less than 2,000 cars available in the U.S. (some will go to other countries), dealers will likely sell every one of them, regardless of mark-up. After all, asking price is simply a starting point for negotiation.
I don't question the sanity of those asking an absurd price, but I might question that of those willing to pay it.

Yeah, and given enough money and engineering talent one can make anything beat just about anything. Would you be interested in a slightly modified '71 Pinto by any chance?
I guess we will have another Ford GT situation on our hands...They seem to come down nicely if you were patient.
I don't know about that. My friend just sold his Ford GT for $160k and it was a 4 year old car. Although I admit the Ford GT situation is different. They only built a total of about 4000 cars and then stopped. I'm sure GM will keep on building ZR1s at the stated 2000/year as long as they can. Probably until the C7 comes out.

here are a few things that most people don't see...
For one.. Dealerships employ a lot of people. If a dealership closes, well a lot of people are left without work. GM's profit margins are not that high, even on high end corvette. If a corvette sits on the lot for at least a month and its sold at MSRP the dealer LOOSES money. Has anyone ever thought about that?
I aggree that 2 to 4x is outrageous, but as customers all you have to do is shop. If that is the only deal you can get, you will have to see if its worthwhile or not. In all honesty if there was a lot of money for the dealership in the MSRP you bet you will be paying msrp prices for high coveted vehicles.
If you where to invest 100k on a vehicle as a dealership... do you think its fair that you earn only a couple thousands? Take into consideration, Municipal taxes, floor plans and what not that the dealer has to pay for that VEHICLE perse that is sitting on the lot for you to buy it.
As a customer I always want to pay less... but as a customer, do I want to see my favorite dealer go bankrupt? where will I buy? if there are no dealers around, dealers WILL gouge up. GM gives VERY little profit margin to dealers.
All GM has to do to solve the problem is assign 10ZR1s to each dealer.. you bet they will sell them @ MSRP.

Like the WORLD FAMOUS BILL HEARD ENTERPRISES needs anymore money. There comes a point in life where you dont need more money but you become greedy and dont give a crap about others and only see $$ signs instead of people. Ive not seen too many dealers go out of business and I venture to say that their houses reflect more than that horrible MSRP they whine about. Ask a dealer if your going to get your head ripped off (dealer lingo for screwing the customer), ask them how many ways they can get you and they will know your on to something. They have 4 ways to get you...price, trade, finance and warranty. I always finance it with them and within 30 days I go to my credit union and the dealership has to write a check back to the original bank for the lost deal! FUNNY!! Screw them because they will screw you in a heartbeat....they are almost as bad as lawyers.
