Re: Guess Its Weight (C6 - SS/Blue Devil/Stingray/Z07)
It's almost certainly going to be based on the C6/C6 Z06 design and thus will have a hatch. Use of more carbon fiber, possibly in the rear quarter panels and/or roof will aid weight reduction. I don't expect the seats to be much, if any, lighter than the stock C6 Z06 seats considering the fact they will almost certainly have side airbags.
Add the weight of wider wheels and tires, possibly larger brakes, a supercharger (although integrated) and even the possibility of an automatic trans with paddle shift and the weight may be closer to the current C6 Z06, even with any additional carbon fiber bits.
Re: Guess Its Weight (C6 - SS/Blue Devil/Stingray/Z07)
Hopefully they will ditch the runflats, use Ti exhaust, and lightweight forged wheels. If you figure this equipment on the current Z plus more carbon fiber, and a lighterweight hatch, (I wish it would be a notch back) race seats, you have a pretty light machine. But then you have to add on a supercharger and intercooler (not too heavy). I wonder what the engines internals will be, forged steel or Ti? Will it still have cast pistons?
Re: Guess Its Weight (C6 - SS/Blue Devil/Stingray/Z07)
It's going to weigh more than the Z06. All of the significant weight savings possible for a street car has been done. The new version will have a heavier engine (supercharger and plumbing). It will also need beefed up parts from the tires and brakes to the gearbox - to handle the added power, not to mention still meet warantee requirements!
Re: Guess Its Weight (C6 - SS/Blue Devil/Stingray/Z07)
The wheels can be lighter - brakes can be much lighter - carbon body work every where - ditch the luxo options - use lighter fastners and panel mounting brackets and strips - loose the steel hinges on the hood, doors and hatch - loose the heavy power seat mechanisms - lighten the lead weight sway bars - lighten the boat anchor leaf springs... this can compensate for the adds and end up with a net zero gain
They do have rumoured $100,000+ price tag to play with - right?

100k out the door, which means they need build cost to be MUCH less to turn a profit, assuming people will buy it. Yes, there is alot that CAN be done to lighten. But will they? I think not. We'll see.

I am going on the assumption that since they put the R&D into the magnesium roof frame, the carbon firbre front fender and wheel well shells and the old C5 Z16 hood, they could exploit at least use of magnesium andCF for some extra components... at least do that.
And then since we know there was a short lived CCWw relationship for test wheels for the mules, that they KNOW there is advantage to dropping 4lbs off each wheel... so exploit that R&D and supplier.
Add to that the idea that Recaro and some other manufacturers (Gates comes to mind) can and do build light weight production spec car seats... lets save 5lbs per side there.
And the list goes on... fastners, there are huge numbers of steel bolts and washers that could subbed with Ti pieces.
Then again, we know 59% of owners will just order 248lbs of chrome dressup parts and a 400lb stereo setup any way hehehe
