ive a deposit on one and i,m #1 [if they get one] from the little real data and pics ive seen i want my deposit back.i dont like the hood, fender badges or the carbon fiber look.i will [may] get black but not that grey.the front air dam wont sit well with me black/black carbon.i was expecting something to wow me.it looks like my 07 z with lickum stickum stuff on it but i will wait and see and that is a plus cuz if i dont like it i wont have to pay 10k on top of the what ever price they tell me.what is driving me to get it is the power.i mean nothin touches my z now and i really need 100 more horse power before i pull the pin on this planet
Don't like hood, but I voted neutral, I vote with my wallet & when I am ready for a c6z it'll be from these guys

Find a nice low miles c6z & put another 4 to 10k into it (your options) and you are at 99 % of the zr1 performance level (or I suppose if you want it 101%) for 1/2 the price.
The guy who owned it b4 me took the depreciation hit.
If money were NO OBJECT, I'd buy the zr1.

Re: How do you feel about the new ZR1?
Didn't we just go through this with the 06 Z??
Dave Hill "It will be distinctive enough your grandmother will be able to tell the difference!"
Well it WASN'T, and all you heard was bitching!!
Now the ZR1 IS, and all you hear is bitching??
GM can't build a one off for every buyer!!
You want that, go buy a Porche and make it your own!!
Corvette people call it modding!!
What we have is a major American manufacturer, building a car that will run with cars two and three times it's price!!
The basic Corvette Coupe or Vert is still great car to own!!
I don't see the Z06 leaving the stable either!
I see the ZR1 as another level of smarts for GM!
A New Corvette is still an option for middle America!!
The Ultimate/ King of the Hill/ Blue Devil/ ZR1................ how about NO!!
Norman, if your agreement is solid, go for it!!
You know the car is gonna be sweet!!
You know once they are out there it's going to be like the GT500, change a pulley and yee-ha!!
Does not take much to make it the way you and anyone thinks it should have been or we think it should be. If we were all alike it would be a very boring world
Although someone could make a solid color carbon fiber hood for them (sans window), with a low production volume of only 2,000 cars there may not be enough of a market to make it economically feasible.
True. But I think they could still do a wee survey of Corvette buyers, and if 95% of everybody hates the clear hood, maybe a normal hood is the way to go. Of course you can't carry this very far or it becomes "design by committee", which sucks even more. But I think you *can* come up with a basic design normally, and then just show it to some people and see if everyone pukes all over one particular aspect of it.
I actually like the basic "look" of the car. Just not a few of the ricey bits. Fix those, and it looks sweet I think.
I'm not sold on the "value for the money" ratio, like I was on the C5Z (and basically am on the C6Z) though.
Still, a cool car, and I'm happy for anyone here who gets one! But then, I'm not very prejudiced about these things; I'm also happy for the people who get Vipers and Porsches.

10 GRAND aint enuf .that may be enuf to equal the grip and braking.like the c6z now nothing will touch the zr1 for the money
All this stuff about what you can do to a "lesser" Corvette for a fraction of the cost to equal or better the performance of the ZR1. That really isn't what it's all about!! It is a halo product for GM. It is about bragging rights and STOCK performance which competes head-to-head with the best that the Germans and the Eye-ties can muster - their own STOCK vehicles. It really is a battle between the manufacturers. NOT us! You can take a 40-year old piece of junk, put a cage in it, stuff a motor in it, and make it a 10-second car.
I saw the clip on this forum yesterday about somebody with a gajillion RWHP as he was driving it... on the highway! It was stupid. He couldn't hook it up to save his life.
The ZR1 is about package engineering. HP upgrade - but the upgraded tranny, axles, diff, suspension, brakes needed to support it in all conditions - not just a few straight line runs. If you do all of that to a C6Z, then you will have spent a LOT of money, voided your warranty, and have a "modded" `vette - and a LOT of people buying used DON'T want anyone else's mods - they want to mod it themselves. So, stock is usually a plus at trade-in time. Dealers won't give you squat for all the expensive mods.
So that, IMHO, is what the ZR1 is all about! Would I buy one? In a heartbeat! Can I afford to do it? No way. I'm hustling just to afford my C6Z - which I love dearly. I plan to keep it a loooong time! Until maybe someday I can afford a used, unmodded, non-tracked, ZR1!!!
To those who can pay the freight, have fun and I can't wait to see you on the road so that I can drool!!!!
There is nothing wrong with the hood, I think it is the piece of plastic underneath it that is tacky. Would be different if it had a piece of artwork like the original ZR1 did under the hood.
I find the ground effects to be worst than the hood. For over 100k there better be NO mistaking it for a Z06.

You're right about that - it's about bragging rights for the car makers and stock numbers, not us. This isn't about modding a car and making it faster than a ZR1. You can either get one or you can't. That's the bottom line. If I had my C6 Z06 I wouldn't be comparing it to the ZR1 - not the same thing regardless of how much I modify it to match or exceed it's performance. I'm glad that GM built the car in addition to the Corvette lineup it already has. They're doing something different from what they've done in the past and that's good for them to attract a wider range of buyers.

The saying "Money talks and walks" applies ... as I am NOT a prospective buyer of said Corvette ...
I'm posting without reading any of the above posts, and I haven't read a whole bunch on the specs ... so this is solely my "unbiased bias"
I voted "exceeded" because I did not expect the CF rotors & pads or the engineering effort to bring the MR shocks to the point of withstanding track use. And the little things like tailored half-shafts and reinforced cases tell me that the engineers prevailed.
some of the stuff ... like the polycarb clear cover seems
It appears that they expect the car to do some duty at the strip (read: shock jounce/rebound bias on hard launch) and they seem to expect it to be run at the track (read surge dry sump capacity) ... that said, I wish they had fitted a pair of seats with belt pass-thru's, ... that's an indicator of awareness of track use requirements.
At north of 100k, I hope they paid attention to the Ford GT experience ... lest they repeat it ...

For me there are more things I like about the Z06 then the ZR1.To me the ZR1 is a sport tourer like a DBS.I mean nothing tells me that this car is a track weapon like a 911 GT3 RS or a Viper ACR or the lastest 430. I would have liked Gm not to get so cazy about having to hit the 600+ hp mark but look into some other areas like lighter weight with maybe a small increase in hp with the LS7.If GM would have done this the performance would be better then the Z06 even tho it didn't have 600hp. Look at the 911 GT3 RS it still has the same motor that the standard GT3 has, it is just lighter and more track focused, and people are on lists to get one. Also the seats could be more like a racing seat with more support, which has always been a weak spot with the Z06.The ZR1 should have the best brakes on any road car period, and that is awesome, but the SC motor and it being 150 or so lbs heavier is not good. For me could I afford one,yes do I want one,no. I have improved the handling and have 600+hp at the motor with my NA LS7 and have more improvements planned down the road,so I guess I will make my Z06 to what I like instead of having a ZR1.Maybe it will be more of a track weapon then I think it will, but for me adding weight and a SC just for me is the wrong direction.
Also the seats could be more like a racing seat with more support...
Except for the fact added bolstering starts to limit who could fit in the seats comfortably. Although I agree the seats are not nearly as supportive as a race seat, they also fit a wide range of body types and sizes. Any bolstering significant enough to be worthwhile also makes it more difficult to get in and out of on a daily basis for those who drive their cars that often.
Thus, GM's answer is if you want a race seat you have to add your own. Unfortunately, they don't make that as easy as it is in some cars due to the design of the seat area and its mounting system. That's one thing about Porsche, they make it childs play to add a wide variety of race seats.
