Well after attending the NCM ZR1 unveiling event at the Detroit Auto show I was very impressed with the ZR1. They displayed the Cyber Grey and I was hoping to see the Blue ZR1 but nonetheless it's a great car and won Best at Show. GM staff were very cleaver avoiding direct questions on price and options and only stated the car would be around the $100K mark. We later found out the 4LR??? package would boost the price to $125 ish. (full interior package is $10K alone) and IMHO it was dissapointing and overpriced as we all know GM saves the best leather for the Caddy as was evident on the ZR1 displayed.
The day before the show we visited Katech. After seeing what they can do to an engine and suspension and knowing what Caravaggio offers in an interior and wide body kit (if this was an option) for me I would get more satisfaction customizing a C6 Z06 vs buying a ZR1. Call me crazy and I surprized myself but this is how I feel.

Re: How do you feel about the new ZR1?
I would like to see one in person. Norm go ahead and buy one, and while your at it, tell them to change the name to Devil Ray or something more creative than ZR1.

NCM#31853 Still retired out in the middle of nowhere.

When they auctioned the ZR1 at Barrett-Jackson last weekend it was stated that when production is started only number 0001 was going to be the blue and not to be repeated. Of course the car at the auction was the blue. It was beautiful under the lights.
The car at Barrett Jackson was Jetstream Blue, which is a current 2008 color.
The first production ZR1 that was auctioned will be LeMans Blue, a 2007 color, and will be the only ZR1 made in that color, which is no longer available.

Thanks for correcting me. What do I know, I like millenium yellow.
Suppose they made a "ZR1-R" or a "Z06-R"
Take the ZR1, replace the 6.2 SC with the 7.o NA Z motor (keep the 10+liter dry sump)
put a pair of Caravaggio or ~ seats with harness slots, harness bar, 6 pt harness.
Sold it with an Impact CF helmet as a "freebee"
How would it be priced relative to the Z06 and the ZR1?
Just a dream ... but it would make me seriously salivate ...

IMO, it's unlikely they will ever put a harness bar and harnesses in a street car due to potential liability issues.
Even a disclaimer that stated something like "This car is equipped with racing harnesses and a harness bar which are intended for off-road use only, in which case the user assumes all risk", would be inadequate.
Holes in the seat back are likely considered a 'design element' and thus are never claimed as being for use with a harness. Therefore, they probably don't have to state they are not intended for harnesses, as no means of attaching a harness is provided.
Well Normie, I kinda like it myself. Yes there are things I dont like about it, but there are things I like about it. I have learned over the years that it's about what "I" like, after all it's my money. All I know is, if I brought one to the fest everyone would want to drive it. And if it makes my AH pucker up when I stomp it...I like it even more.
First of all, all indications are that GM out did themselves throughout; can't wait for the mag. wars.
That being said! My first Z was an 01 which ended up having some issues and first year cars are aways a gamble, and I now have an 02.
Finally, this is finally going to be the Vette that satisfies any HALF crazed weekend warriors (Normans not included) need for speed, and the Europeans $ratio Autobon usable 220mph, period. Actually, 4.10s and slicks would probably even be enough to make Norman wet his pants!

Yet RUF and Porsche both sell full production cars in the USA with belt pass throughs and mounting points, and in the case of the RUF an integrated roll cage.
I really dont think "fear of liability" is what's keeping GM from selling a properly seated car, its simply to allow those large of girth to fit in the seats
