Price? No comment since GM has yet to tell us the MSRP.
Update, April 27, 08, after attending the seminars at the NCM this past weekend, and seeing the new ZR1 in person-up close, I now feel EXCITED, IMPRESSED and VERY INTERESTED!
After watching the 205 mph video it's impossible to not be impressed.
Many here do not lean favorably towards the ricer oreinted bling crap they did to the car. However if you can afford the car (which many of us cannot) you can probably afford to tastefull correct the bling crap.

I like the ZR1 overall but the hood is a joke. A few years ago Lutz came back from a european auto show and wanted portholes in the fenders of Buicks because that is what Masarati was doing. My guess is there is a similar story behind the ZR1 hood. The fact that Ferrari has clear engine cover obviously is a driving force. The problem is that Ferrari engines are beutiful and that is one of their trademarks. If they dumped the hood I would be far more excited.
Sorry, but Buick had port holes in the 50s. The hood maybe hotwheels.
if i won one i'd quickly turn around and sell it. and buy a c5z, as that is the car thats right for me. then i'd pay off part of my school loans with the left over
i like how the front rent behind the front tire has changed, but i don't like how the rear vent looks on the newer gen. i don't like the c5z one either. but there is an after market body kit for it that i do like. and the hood could have been done without the window. heck i like the concept of a shaker style hood better than the window. this isn't Europe this is America, we let the engine stick out of the hood before we put a window in it

still waiting on the z06 to materalize in my driveway. shouldn't be long now.
Let's ask Corvette's Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter why they used the polycarbonate hood insert and see what he says...
"The hood window is both an aesthetic and funtional feature. We minimized the clearance between the engine and the hood to maximize forward vision from the driver's seat. This dictated a very close tolerance between engine and hood skin. Design helped make this need an aesthetic 'win' also by covering the intercooler with the transparent panel. You can see the engine move under the hood and since we have only a thin pane of polycarbonate, the hood surface is very low."
Also...
"The visible carbon fiber roof panels saved 6.6 pounds. The ZR1 hood weighs 7.5 pounds less than the Z06 hood. We concentrated lightweight materials in the front and height of the vehicle to lower the center of gravity and improve weight distribution."
Had they not used the polycarbonate insert and instead made the hood in the usual fashion, it would have necessitated a taller hood bulge due to the added structural bracing required in the area of the insert. Therefore, a separate insert was used. And since it's a relatively small insert, no bracing was needed.
In lieu of a body colored panel, design likely deemed the clear polycarbonate panel more aesthetically pleasing. In addition, had a body colored panel been used instead, people would have wondered why the hood was not a single piece.
I too saw the ZR1 up close at the NCM when I was there on May 1 taking delivery of my 427 Z06. I love the gray metalic color combined with the carbon fiber pieces. Everything looks great except for the non-matching brake calipers - should have an option to have them match the car color or just red. The blue looked strange with the gray metalic paint. Love my new 427 but I have to say I wish I could have gotten the new ZR1. Great effort at a first class true exotic super car by GM.

Norm --where are you? You said you had a lot to say. I have never known you to be at a loss for words.
I'm thinking he likes it. But I have been wrong...once.

GM did it just to mess with you. Sons o' bitches.
You got exactly what you knew you were getting. GM didn't con you into a C6Z. Your car is just as fast as it was before the ZR-1 and still as impressive. It's just not the "best Vette yet" anymore. But I have news for you, the ZR-1 won't be king of the hill forever either.

Hey guys I have one opinion and and a couple of thoughts.
The opinion: I still haven't warmed up to the whole c6 thing, sorry guys.
The thought: where are you going to drive this thing,as soon as you lay a number your local strip is going to ask you to leave and autocross probably not going to outrun C5 C6 ZO6's and you really shouldn't HPDE with this power and no safety equipment.
Just some late night thought.

Re: How do you feel about the new ZR1?
i'm so late to the party on this that its sad. I didn't even realize it existed until after I bought a Z06, and thats the plain & simple truth of it.
So its too late for me to strike a handhsake deal with some stealer somewhere or leverage whatever i've boughten or anything, and its either pay up or not drive the thing...
And for everybody paying big $$ for an '09, my big question is "when do i get it". A car arriving in 2 months -vs- 12 months? Kind of a big difference there in terms of what its worth. In 12 mos I imagine someone will be getting their '08 for $150k while someone else is browsing a dozen availalbe '09s on ebay for $120k...
A guy could take $100k in depreciation quick on a ZR1 if things go wrong... and that isn't sounding like too much fun.
Still, to have the "it" vehicle when "it" was "the thing" would be fun at least once in a guys life.
What do you want to tell your grandkids when you're 60 or 70? (this is honest to god how I make alot of decisions). That you had a ZR1 when they were new... or that you had a ZR1... is there a difference? Does it matter?
I got nothing on this one, but i'd sure pay $20k over MSRP and not think about it much... $70k over... not as sure.
