Re: How will this car effec z values??

one of the prime factors that hold a sports car like the z06's value is that its one of the fastest cars on the road, bar none, save for a few hyper-exotics. now you have 1. the 600 hp viper, and 2. the new zr1. the zo6 is going farther down the ladder in terms of 'fastest on the road'.

i cant tell you how many vette or viper owners come to me with the hp ratings and the blah blah this things the fastest blah blah i have 400-600 hp blah blah. a good number of people throwing down 70-100k for a hunk of metal and plastic usually only care about having the fastest rated car, and that holds immense weight on the value.

as for those who think there is a difference bettween the base model vette and the zr1 i hate to break the news but they are all 85% the same car. they all have pushrods, leaf springs, plastic panels, and the name chevy attached to them. these things can only hold value for so long before they become obsolite by the newest technology. you can basically take a stock c5 and throw bolt-ons onto it to make it a z06 or a zr1 if you want to, save for the frame which is made of different material but still the same in terms of shape. you cant say that about a ferrari 430 to an enzo or a 599. or a nissan 350z to a new GTR, which are truly 'different' cars.

yes they zr1 will effect z06 prices, not because it is some mirracle of name 'zr1', but more so because the car is just becomming dated. wait until the c7 comes out then be boggled at how fast these things will drop price, ie the c5 z06.

dont get me wrong i love my vette, always have and always will, but the one thing that i always look forward to is exactly what this thread talks about...depreciation. i live for the moment when i can get a 60k car for half as much, like i did with my z. in 3 years we will see c6 zs hitting the $40k ranges and when it does i will be all over it like white on rice.

the reason i dont go financing a $70k sports car today is because i know it will be worth nearly half that in 5 years when i still owe like $30k on the thing. i buy used so that the drain on my wallet stays reasonable and its gonna stay that way unless i hit the lotto. im not bashing anyone who buys a new car like that, in fact i am thankfull that there are those more fortunate than me who can pave the way for guys like me to be able to one day have this car without worrying about breaking the bank. only lets not fool ourselves into thinking the davaluation of our cars is not comming as fast as it really is.

not trying to burst bubbles but cars depreciate like mad, its just the nature of the beast. as new models come and go it obviously will effect the value, otherwise we would still have c4 vettes selling for $30k+ for a base model. in the realm of high performance, being the fastest carries with it the power to make or break the value of other cars.

Re: How will this car effec z values??

The ZR-1, like the over stock of cars, the gas situation, and the desire to have the latest thing will all contribute to bringing the perceived value of the ZO6 down. Just like it will push the ZR-1 up just to be the latest thing. That is something that will always be true for the nonVette, non car people. In South Florida cars are mainly a fashion item.....like a high dollar watch.

Re: How will this car effec z values??

The value of the Z06 stayed high until supply exceeded demand. The one thing that you can count on is that GM will over produce any car that they build. GM has always done so and will continue to do so. GM has a network of dealers that will take all they can build. The ZR1 will command high prices until supply exceeds demand. GM says they will build 2000 ZR1s a year. The ZR1 appeals to a smaller market than the Z06 does. It is just a matter of time and you will see the price come down on the ZR1. I do not think that the ZR1 will have any influence on the market value of the Z06. The two cars are in completely different market segments. The Z06 is tanking because of over production and it will continue to drop. I am happy to say that I will be able to afford a C6 Z06 in a short time. That is just the way of the automotive world.

Re: How will this car effec z values??

who cares what your car is worth to the market? why would you want to sell it anyways, its a super car thats still civil to drive with a gas crisis going on. I'D DIE TO GET THE MILLAGE YOU GUYS GET! one of the selling points for me on a z is the gas millage, sure i want something fast, but really how often am i going to push it to that limit? i just want something cool. not an s10 that gets 10mpg. yes i said 10 mpg. (doesn't run right, but still runs enough to get me to work) i know the zr1 won't do anything major to the c5 or c6 z's prices but i truly hope the c7 kills the value of the c5z because thats the one i want. sure the 7 will be faster and "better" but with that money saved i can defiantly make the 5z faster than balls
