Right or wrong it is silly to pay more for something than what it's worth. I remember the old ZR1 in the 90's and guys were paying over then too. Five years later you couldn't sell them because the starter alone was $700.!!! and no one wanted to maintain the car. Even now there is a guy at my local car show selling for a very reasonable price who can't sell for two years! Parts are very expensive. It may be different this time around I'll agree but if you paid 20-60 grand over sticker and got rear ended and totaled two blocks from the dealership what do you think your insured for??!! When you sell it or get an insurance payout that market value is not even on the table it's gone!
Come the fall of this year, I'm going to be silly.

I guess to me, this whole question of MSRP or not is relative.
I personally don't want to pay over MSRP for anything..but as I pointed out, that's just my personal thing.
If we were all practical, level headed, conservative car buyers we would have some much lower priced sensible cars out in the garage. That's definately not that case and therefore where one person draws the line ("I won't pay over MSRP"), another says to hell with that, I can afford it and I want one as soon as I can get it.
Which person is wrong and which person is right? As I said, it's all relative

This is something kinda like what I've been thinking...I DON'T THINK WE SHOULD HAVE TO PAY OVER MSRP FOR THIS ZR1/VIPER/PORSCHE OR WHATEVER...PERIOD.
Dealers should get their money from the car manufacture's on a set price and that's it..
Or maybe there could be a federal mandate that keeps car dealers from "rake'n us over coals" so to speak..
Guess the Dealerships feeling is along the lines of "If they're stupid enough/or eogtistical of enough to pay our markups..then so be it"...problem is it raises the "Greedy" bar for all of us....

Andy, it's still the laws of supply and demand, brutha.
Think of all the thousands of people who spent all night outside a store waiting for the new game (can't remember the name) that was being released the next morning. Then some of them immediately put their 'game' up for sale on e-bay the next day for 3 or 4 times what they paid for it.....and people bought them. Others kept them because that's just what they needed/wanted and the pricing was not the major issue.
It all depends on what somebody wants vs what somebody wants to sell for. Hell, if the dealerships didn't sell them for a bunch over MSRP, you can bet your ass that a whole lot of buyers would be standing in line, paying MSRP, and then selling them the next day on e-bay for 2 or 3 times what they paid.
I don't like it, but there it is.....
Mike
....also, think about one other aspect. This is going to be a very limited edition car. We have no way of knowing, but it's possible that after they make 2000 ZR-1's, they stop.....
That could change the market value considerably....
I agree. I don't think anyone should have to pay over sticker for anything and I don't want to as much as anyone else, but sometimes when you want something bad enough, you just have to bite the bullet and go for it.
I like my money to stay in my pocket but the damn toys get in the way.

Mike, good point. Your probably referring to the game "HALO 3"..I was one of those guys that stood in line for 3 days and ate beef jerky for 48hrs jus to get one!!! (JUST KIDDING).
In ref. to your point it does keep some exclusivity for the ZO6/ZR1 etc. and that I think we all like...

Don't actually have a "connection," but know of couple of dealers who don't sell any Corvette for over MSRP. Shop around, and talk to the dealership sales manager or owner. Establishing a good repoir with your favorite dealer helps immensely. Not all of them are "stealerships." Good luck.
Don't know why all the forums are taking it for granted that the ZR1 will command exobitant prices. Remember last year's limited edition (500) Indy pace car? They could be had for under MSRP. The Ron Fellows Zee could be bought for MSRP or lower, and only 300 were built for the states.
Zippy makes a good point. And w/ this economy the market for alot of things has changed. Mabey w/ less people in the market & holding tight it may be alot closer to MSRP who knows. Lets not forget we make the market. There are alot of Z's out there right now at dealerships. Hey Norm try not to be too silly, just alittle silly!!!
I'd say it is going to be very tough. I'd just as soon skip the first year anyway and let all the gotta-haves get all the problems as well. There's always something that will need to be addressed in the next model year.
I simply refuse to pay over MSRP. If it means I don't get the car, so be it, as over MSRP is simply pissing money down the toliet IMO. Cars are horrible investments as it is without paying additional dealer greed.
There will be less ZR 1's than Zo6's but the price point also means there will be a lot less buyers. The economy is a lot less robust than when the c6Z came out. Bet they come down to msrp quicker than the c6z did.
