Probably right. Maybe Jay Leno or somebody like that. Sure won't be me. If I ever own one, I'll wait 2 years and buy a used one with 2K miles on it for $70-grand. Which is what they'll be worth 2 years down the road.
Friends in Scottsdale right now are hearing whispers of $500K from some of the heavy hitters positioning for the bidding. Knowing a couple of the guys peripherally, my read is that they are looking at it as a museum buy.
"Pick it up now, put it away for 50 years, and make it priceless once gas-driven cars are obsolete..." Stuff like that.
That said, even at half a million, it still wouldn't be the highest price ever paid for a Corvette.

Re: Value of ZR1 at Barrett-Jackson?
It really doesn't matter what it goes for......
100% of the sale price goes to United Way charities!!
The car is a right off and the dude with the biggest checkbook gets to go meet Leno and Ron Fellows yada yada.................
I was there today and saw the car. Looks really good with the exception of clear hood. A year or two ago they sold the first production GT500 Shelby for about 500k. I would not be surprised to see it go for 400k. The distractor for this car will be the first production Super Snake will follow it so the fellas with the big bucks will have some decisions to make. By the way the brakes on this thing are outrageous!! You could mount tires on the rotors and still have a normal size wheel.
2KC5 FRC MN6, Bad Head & Cam install, Failed Lifter, Burnt Clutch, Cracked Rotors, Bad Tune, Blown Piston, Blown Head Gasket, and faulty rockers.....but I still come back for more.....Installed/Tuned by LG Motorsports. Best 1/4 Trap: 11.94 Best Top Speed 121.10 on street tires at 1200 Ft ASL.[/center]
Morning Zippy! I thought it was being auctioned off LAST NIGHT. My bad..... (Biting my nails, edge of seat, one leg shaking.....) I wish I was able to see it in person as well. I thought these fat pocket auctions were closed to public, but one other member PRUETTFAN, says he saw the car in person. Do these events open up to public?
I guessed at the price in the other thread posted.
I guessed the price to be $500,000. But I think it may go higher since today is the day when all the guys with the big bucks usually show up. They also run all the cars across that they think are the best of the best. The ZR1 is scheduled to go across the block at 8:30PST so, that is pretty late for us east coast folks. I hope we are home from the game to see the results of the sale.

GR8White:
Yes, the auction is open to the public. All it takes is money. Money for putting your car in the auction, money for general admission, money for a bidders pass, money (10% of selling price) to buy, money for insurance on your new purchase, money for taxes, and money to ship it home.
Now, you know why I don't buy from auctions. Fun to watch, but expensive to participate.
