Just wondering what you guys thought the persons that could afford the new $115,000 ZR1 would be like (in general).... I'm sure many members here will be able to buy one -- I'm truly happy for you (your existing membership in our Vette-society is already noteworthy). Still, you've got to figure that at that price, there will probably be some new DNA added to the Corvette-family!
I'm assuming that they'll be showing-up at all the Corvette events around the country (?) Do you think we'll fit in with them?
Wonderful car.... It's not just a matter of cost.... it's probably waaaayy outside the price range that many would have any success convincing the Wife that it's a need ....
....your thoughts....?

You must be talking about the hairy chest gold chain crowd.
They will have to fit in with us.
Mikey will humblize them real quick................................
Yeah ... ROWG buyer slightly (perhaps not noticeably) lighter in the wallet ...
My ZR1 buyer categories:
1. First Corvette
a) had other performance marque ... prolly knowelegeable and will assimilate
b) first performance car ... ROWG, but many will be clueless about the car or driving it.
2. Came from Corvette.
a) ROWG ... will drive this one like the other ones - garaged, covered, only out on nice days (saving it for me! ... )
b) Enthusiast ... affordability not a factor ... wants it, got it, now wants to mod it!
I hope to see some 1a's and 2b's and hope they will talk to me ...
1b's and 2a's prolly won't wave to my lowly C5 ...

Porsche seems to sell a lot of over $100,000 sports cars. What are their buyer demographics?
I don't know that it's all that much of a jump from an $80,000 Z06 to a $120,000 ZR1. I'm not so naive that I think all Corvette or Porsche buyers have tons of money laying around, but if you can afford an $80k sports car $100k+ probably isn't that far out of reach.
It's definitely a different market compared to an average family that buys a $25-30,000 Accord or similar. For most of those people any car that costs more than double is not even an option.
I don't seem to fit into any of Denny's categories. I am a poor old white guy. I bought my C5 Z06 the same way I buy motorcycles. I buy the fastest best thing(at the time) that I can get for the money I can afford to spend. For me a used Z06 was the right choice for my $35,000. I'm not even close to having a C6 Z06 as an option, let alone a ZR1. If I was able to spend the big bucks I'd buy the same way I always have. It might be a Porsche, a ZR1, a GTR, or whatever else was the fastest car I could get for my money. Not being brand loyal is something that kind of separates me from the "normal" car buyer.
Someone on this forum must be a marketing type that thinks they know "Who Are The ZR1 Buyers?"
Well being an ex-Porsche salesman... I can tell you that most Porsche buyers are ego driven. They think that the salesmen are poor humble souls who can barely feed their families. I have put quite a few of them in their place whether it was showing them the handling characteristics of a Porsche or Audi or that I could actually afford one but, chose to drive a Z06. Used to work at a place in Rockville.
I think the ZR-1 buyers will be the guys that have graduated from the Z06 or Porsche GT-2(yes, rare crowd due to availability).

None of the above apply to me. Just a working grunt engineer on someone else's payroll & approaching senior citizenship. All of my kids out of the house now. Never had to pay for any past mistakes in romance. My wife of 28 years supports my vette habit. The ZR1 car will be my daily driver just like the 72, 01Z and 06Z.

I don't know about "categories" and the like, but speaking for myself, THIS ZR1 Buyer will be a 35 year old, single, self-made executive, car enthusiast with multiple corvette history and the desire to own and drive the best cars in the world because he can finally afford to do so while not adversely affecting his lifestyle.
Talking with the wife the other day, she's ok with another ZR1, (I had 2 C4's)after I explained it would be a 2 for 1 deal. My '67 coupe and my C6 Z06 for a new one. Not right away, I can wait for supply to meet demand. If I can't eventually find one for a fair price, I got my toys anyway. I won't pay stupid money to be the first. I'm not rich by any means, an hourly wage slave at a power plant.

Time to expand beer production ... Maybe you could get hooked up as the official beer vendor for NCM events ... that should put you over the top on cash flow!
