they keep comparing the zr1 to the gt-r. IMO they are no where close. Heck the z06 should beat the gt-r. the gt-r is fatter, weaker, and slower. What gives?

The C6 Z06 is no match for the GT-R. The GT-R has beat it on many different tracks. The GT-R with minor mods can definitely take on the ZR1 - and I bring that up just to give you perspective on it's performance - I am in no way saying that you can compare stock vs. modified. Actually, the GT-R was made to take on the 997 TT, but it turns out that the Porsche GT2 is more of a direct competitor; the 997 TT sees nothing but dust.

I would tend to agree. The GTR seems to comepltely defy physics. I was just rewatching the top gear vid "below" (stig hot lap) where it came within .2 sec of the Ariel Atom which is in my mind the poster child for lightweight road/track cars.
Too bad they started the pull 1400rpm too high. It would have been good to see the TQ under 3300rpm since that is where most of us drive our cars anyway (on the street.)

Yeah, I don't know about that dyno shop . . . A late pull AND exceeding the revlimiter by several 100 revs! Amazingly the LS9 continues making even more power that high in the rpm band. However, talk about throwing caution to the wind for maximum braggin rights!

Hahahha lets wait until Nissan runs out of ringers. By the day the GTR's have gotten slower and slower, people have now serious doubts over its performance. These with doubts arent unskilled drivers too these are top drivers.
More recent GTR's are closer to a mid 12 second car than Nissan's earlier 11.5 seconds.
According to Clarkson its difficult to determine how much power the GTR has because each engine is hand built and so each engine produces different powers..........can you say ringers?

You may be right about the "ringers" component but I think that what we're talking about is beyond straight line performance. Numerous reports have said that the GTR (regardless of HP figures) runs out of steam due to gearing. In a flat out run north of 100mph, I would expect the both the ZR1 and Z06 to create some distance on the Nissan. This said, the cornering and handling capabilities of the GTR should not be ignored.
The GT-R was designed to do well in the cornering department, as stated above. Regardless if some are faster than others - you can still go aftermarket and make them quick. The recent R&T issue has an article in which they run a Mine's GT-R that was clocked running the 1/4 mile in 11.1 at 127 mph. Not bad for a 3800 lbs car. That would make it a very fun second car.
