The new ZR1, for all it's technical promise, just doesn't grab me (yet) the same way the C6Z did back when I had the C5Z. The ZR1 is likely one giant leap, but I'm just not compelled in the same way I was when the C6Z appeared. I had to have the C6Z. Even taking the cost out of the equation or assuming I could just write the check, the C6Z is just so much car, I can't see $100,000 plus for street work. I rather keep the C6Z, maybe with a Katech Street Attack package, and use the left over money for a new 4 wheel drive pickup. While I won't be buying a ZR1 (atleast I'm not planning on it-but life happens), I'm anxious to hear and read about those who do get one because I'm sure it's one heck of a car.
Anyone else who isn't struck (yet anyway) with the "I gotta have it" syndrome?
I'm with ya on this one! When the C6Z came out I knew I couldn't afford it but really was hopped up about it. I did say I would get one when the over invoice insanity stopped. So I waited and still wanted the C6Z which I just bought 3 mnths ago. Love it but still miss my C5Z. Plan to keep it. This ZR1 isn't enough of a leap to me from what I own now. I'm quite certain the ZR1 does more than a couple of things better. But having been a GM guy my whole life and knowing their shortcomings, I could never see spending 100,000 + for a GM vehicle. Is this the same company with the same service dept. and same customer service? 100,000 for that? I don't think so! Who is going to service this vehicle? The retard at the dealership that watches a video of the repair before he attempts it?!! Truley I still can't believe I spent 72000 with this company. That was the threshhold. Good bang for the buck up to this point but going too far if you ask me. I know it will compete w/ Ferrari and other supercars as does our Zo6 but it is not any of those cars. I understand it's a third of the price but it is a GM veh. Look at how they stand behind their product now after you spend 77000 dollars. Oh you found needle bearings in you oil pan Sir? It's the rocker arms, we've known about it for 3 yrs sorry we'll fix them 1 by 1 as they fail!!!! What a company!!! It doesn't catch me or excite me mainly because it is a polished up Zo6 and two the price is silly for GM. Nice to see them do it though it raises the bar for the competition.
That's essentially how I see it as well, not to mention the cheesy, tacked on, appearance. These cars are likely going to be insanely marked up, with prices between $150 - $200K not being out of the question. That's too much for what it is, especially in its first year.

Ooooh Oooooooh...that's me...I'll pay 30K over sticker for it..I'm that "idiot" ....
JK...
YES, THERE WILL BE PLENTY OF IDIOTS PLEASING THE GREEDY DEALERS...FALLING OVER THEMSELVES TO PAY IT..SO IT CAN SIT IN THEIR GARAGE W/ALL THE OTHER HIGHPRICED TOYS...AND COLLECT DUST..

Not me, I can't afford the new Z06, so there is no way I will ever own a new ZR1. Heck I've never even sat in a C6 Z06. I would consider buying a C6 coupe, add the Z06 fenders and a supercharger, and a real paint job, maybe for less than the price of a new Z06.

That's right, it's a Z06.

If I could just drop the LS9 into my C5Z and add those nice big carbon ceramic brakes, I'd be happy. The rest doesn't really stir my heart.

1) No more Lemans Blue - My favorite color
2) ZR1 has a very ricey look to me - do not like the carbon fiber look at all
3) As others have said the price will be MSRP + 30 + ? I'm not going there
4) Certainly not for a GM vehicle with their level or service.
I'l just keep my Lemans Blue C6-Z and if I feel I need more, send it to Katech

Re: ZR1 Gut Attack
I just got through reading the write up in Car and Driver about it... I like it, but I can't get too excited about a car that I can't afford. I'm not totally blown away by the overall appearance, but the specs are awesome. It looks like it will be a helluva machine!
I think that for the money these things will be selling for, I'd sooner start looking at marques like Ferrari.
For $50K, I don't think there was anything that was going to get around the track faster than a C5Z. For $120K, well, you start to want more than just uber performance. You start to want better dealers, and nicer interiors. You start to want to not have all your road feel squeezed out of existence by Chevy's wonderful *cough* power steering numbness. You start to want suspensions that aren't as upset by mid-corner bumps. You start to want the intangibles that Chevy is just not known for.
More power to the people who will buy them, of course. But even if I had the bucks, I can't quite see myself in a $120K ($150K?) Chevy. I think I could much better use my limited money on some more track time with a good instructor in the other seat. Right now, that will make me faster than any amount of increased horsepower could.
I love my Z06, but, how about slapping on a supercharger, getting the additional horsepower and not paying well over $100,000 for the same thing! Yeah baby that's what I'm taken bout!

Wait for the C7 and there's a good chance that's exactly what you'll get: a supercharged engine with more hp for <$100K.

Understand what you're saying, but the truth of the matter is that you could make that statement with almost any car. Aftermarket engine/parts/FI and you can make almost any vehicle faster than it's more expensive counterpart.
Except for the hood (which can be fixed quickly with an aftermarket hood I'm sure), the ZR-1 is a step up in the game.
Will I buy one..No.
I just won't use the excuse that I could make my C6Z faster for cheaper. It's true of course, but makes for lame reasoning.
