Is what it should have been as far as looks? No, not really.
Do I have the cash set aside to buy one from my dealer where I am #2 on the list? Yes.
Will I pay a ridiculous sum? No, won't take much over MSRP to steer me to something else or just keep my C6 Z06.
i,m # 1 at my dealer.i may go 10g,s over.why ? because i can. i,m not too excited about the looks [from what little ive seen] .i put 118k on my 01 coup,i got 30k on my 07z,i cant wait for 600 + HP.as for the people that cant afford it,they should have paid more attention in school
That's essentially how I see it as well, not to mention the cheesy, tacked on, appearance. These cars are likely going to be insanely marked up, with prices between $150 - $200K not being out of the question. That's too much for what it is, especially in its first year.
If this sounds the end of the 427, then I am more than happy with my '08 Z06. A future classic.
The power in the ZR1, would relegate it to a track day special, I drive my Z06 every day!! No competition there.
I would like the wheels though!

It's interesting to see them put factory FI on it. Wonder why they chose top mount (roots) style instead of the slick front mount style. Are they more reliable for a factory warranty?
Reliable, factory, blower, warranty, discussed in the same paragraph! 620hp stock.
ps. imagine what they could done with twin turbos-just kidding..
Would be nice to have one but I just can't justify that kind of money for something I'd be afraid to drive to and leave at the mall. If I could drive my current z to its full potential, I might bite.
Aftermarket engine/parts/FI and you can make almost any vehicle faster than it's more expensive counterpart.
Not to mention: although this doesn't apply so much in the C6Z vs ZR1 case, in more extreme cases ("my Pinto's faster than your Vette!") for some bewildering reason they're only talking about driving the car in a straight line. But the Vette is a *sports* car. I'll spot the 600 HP Pinto guy 200 HP, and still beat him around the track, as long as it has some curves in it Hell, I'll beat him around the track in a 190 HP Elise.
More apropos to this thread, there *is* more to the ZR1 than simply an engine upgrade. Of course, starting with a platform as good as a C6Z (as opposed to as crappy as a Pinto), you can address those things. It's just yet more money that for some reason never seems to get mentioned by the "just add a blower!" people.
There's a lot more to a sports car than how much power it's got. Not necessarily trying to defend the ZR1 or its price tag... just sayin'.
I am an owner of a 2007 ZO6 and I could attest to the less than average customer service department at various GM dealerships. With the ZR1 going in the low $100K this is one area they will need some serious improvement.
I had a 90 ZR1 and a 94 ZR1 and sold them because I could not find a good dealership to repair them. They usually had a mechanic or none.
With the new ZO6 I still feel as the average person (no punt intended and sorry if am been misinterpreted) but you know what I mean.... You buy and expensive and some what exclusive automobile and you deserve a customer service / parts than if you bought a 12K car. GM is not ready for this service not even with there top of the line Cadillac's. Lexus, Infinity, and even Honda provided better service. Good luck GM and step up to the plate on this issue.
