I don't want to start a giant shhit storm but what is up with the Zr1 vs GTR thing? The GTR should be compared to a Z06. Maybe I don't understand since I'm not really a "Corvette guy." I bought my used C5 Z06 because it was the fastest car I could buy for the amount of money I could spend at the time. I really don't care what kind of car it is, I just want the best thing I can get for my dollars. Since the GTR costs about the same as a new Z06 shouldn't they be compared together? A ZR1 costs about the same as a GT3 so in my mind they should be compared together. If I was spending $105,000 for a car that's what I would do.
Am I just totally screwed up, or do other people also buy cars based on how much they can afford to spend and then try to get the best car they can for the money?
I agree 100% with you meldog, I too dont have a Z06 yet but hoping to pick one up before spring. I wasted my time looking long and hard at a 350z but then realized theres a faster more of a sports car out there in the c5z and even though there were never any vettes in my bloodline Im sure I will love the car for what it can do.
as far as the GTR goes, youre right theres over a $20K price difference, which if Nissan wanted to Im sure they could use that money to up the power even more and smoke the ZR1.. so really you cant compare the two
You won't be disappointed, Doba. I have an '04 Z06 and it's my first Corvette. It's actually my first sports car ever.
And meldog, you're right. The GTR should be compared to the C6 Z06, not the ZR1. But I should also point out that the GTR's launch control voids the warranty and could possibly severely damage the transmission with repeated use. Without LC, it's about as fast as a C5 Z06 in a drag race.
I like the GTR, but I would never buy one. I need a proper manual gear box and clutch pedal.
Yeah Vant I like my sports cars to have a manual transmission as well, nevermind all this F1 pedal crap, i dont care if its faster shifing than I could ever be with a manual 6 speed, it just feels right.... however it would not stop me from owning a Ferrari
I found the video, I posted it. It's the best GM has to offer vs. the best Nissan has to offer. It is what it is. Don't get your panties in a wad over it.
Anyone can build up a C5Z so that it will smoke a stock ZR1. I'm trying to do it right now. I bought mine for $28K and will have about $15K in after I get mine back from the shop. It can be done for far less than $100K.
I understand the comparison of flagship vehicle vs flagship vehicle, but comparisons should be fair and balanced.
Any vehicle or product should be compared taking as many factors as possible into account and making adjustments as necessary to keep the comparison fair. The first thing everyone testing cars should do is check the alignments and put the cars on equal tread wear rated tires. If possible the cars should be on the same tires.
If launch control on the Nissan voids the warranty the 0-60 times should be listed with and without launch control.
The price of the vehicle makes a difference. GT2s are sweet cars but at $200,000 they are in a completely different market than a $100,000 car.
If you want to see what I'm talking about as to what a fair comparison is, take a look at Road Racing World and Motorcycle Technology. They completely list every specification for the vehicles. They make adjustments to keep it fair. They test the bikes in varied environments track and street. In the end you have a clear picture of what bike is better for you.

Cool! Are you also upgrading the suspension, brakes, tires, etc?

Dog
Fair and balanced? Gimme a break. Does everyone mod their cars the exact same way? If you raced someone who has a different setup or car and lost, would you cry about it not being "fair and balanced" or "your car costs more than mine?"
Once you make adjustments, they're not stock anymore, are they? We all know reviews are done on cars as they are from the factory. It's all really moot, because you know anyone with that kind of coin for a C6 Z06, GT-R or ZR1 will likely be modding it anyway.
To argue against your price range point, a stock ZR1 will beat stock exotics costing 2 to 5 times as much. Again, this is simply the best of Nissan vs. the best of GM and I posted it for everyone's enjoyment.

Just had LG coilovers and Mallett sway bars with racing end links installed while my new motor is being assembled, and I already have a Wilwood big brake kit with stainless lines.
I haven't addressed any racing or drag wheels yet and probably won't until next spring. Right now I have 19/20s on which aren't good for much of anything, just a little bling for the street. However, I want my Z to be able to eventually do HPDEs and go to the drag strip as well.
You can check out my build log to see everything being done.
I'll take the EVO. I have always wanted one and I'm sure it's only a matter of time before my corolla will take a dump eventually...well maybe not who knows
I liked the video and agree about fair comparisons but this post was about a video
I'm thinking you meant that as a half joke, but put those 2 cars next to each other and they look about the same as a Z06 and and Viper ACR would (i.e. they don't look the same at all!).
I'll tentatively say their front just happen to look the same 'cause it's the latest fad in car designs (isn't it Audi which also has something somewhat similar?). But the rest of their body is waaaaay different. Both decent in their own right if you ask me, but that's obviously a matter of opinion
I also don't get this GT-R vs ZR1 thing. They're both good cars, but they're not direct competitors. So, whatever.. not worth bringin up again.
I wouldn't be too quick to rule out the GT-R and it's potential. The performance model, or the V-spec, has already put down better numbers than the ZR1 in the Nurburgring in preliminary numbers. Those should get lower with time. But, who cares... the ZR1 is better in many other areas. I just sit back and enjoy how competetive all the car companies are getting. That deserves a
