ZR1 vs. GTR around the RING

I figured with another 150 hp (torque?) and a curb weight 500 lbs lighter than that of Nissan's GTR that the ZR1 would have a greater than 3 second difference around Nurburgring.

I guess hp/weight isnt everything, oh and the GTR attained ULEV emissions too? Wow.

Same MSRP? Wow.

The potential of the GTR with 635 hp? Hmmm.

If I wasnt aware of our looming energy crisis and the complete depletion of petroleum within a few decades, and if I had $80 laying around I know where my money would go.

If GM survives, it is in their best interest to evolve with the rest of the automotive world and adopt AWD for the remainder of the petroleum party. If its one thing I didnt particularly enjoy about the vettes/f bodies it would be the complete lack of traction in 1st gear with any tire with a treadwear rating over 100.

But the point is the ZR1's state of the art suspension platform did win out over a RWD state of the art Porshe and a AWD, effectively obsoleting the need for either. The Z's extra power is really geared away. Put some DOT slicks and 3.90's in/on it a it would really walk all over those guys!

The GT-R than ran the ring in 7:29 was almost certainly weilding much more than 480 horsepower. If you watch the videos, the GT-R basically keeps up with the ZR1 over the big straightaway at the end of the lap.

In a recent stock/stock Porsche Turbo -vs- GT-R comparison at the Nurburgring by Drivers Republic in Britain, the Porsche was 17mph faster than the GT-R on the back straight. The ZR1 is of course faster than the Porsche, which leaves no logical conclusion except that the 7:29 Nissan was well up on power from a stock car.

The ZR1 can go faster, the GT-R had to cheat to hit 7:29. That doesn't mean the GT-R isn't a really interesting and cool car, it just means its not in ZR1 territory for performance.
